Lower engraving catch 22

Just called a guy to get some lowers engraved. He said he has been warned by DOJ not to engrave finished lowers. Apparently there is a lot of theft going around where the info is filled in and covered over. Then new s/n are engraved.

So, can't get them engraved but to register them they need s/n.

Find a new engraver.. He's lying to you and is just too much of a coward. To say he just doesn't feel comfortable doing them.

you should have asked the engraver what is to stop someone from stealing unfinished lowers and bringing it to you?

If by unfinished you mean an 80% blank he had no problem with it.

Absolute FUD, he likely does not have an FFL and CANNOT LEGALLY keep a firearm overnight and doesnt have the nuts to admit it.

Just got a call back from a 2nd engraver. He was handed a document by ATF at Del Mar show explaining that, even if lower owner is standing next to the machine, he cannot work on a finished lower unless he is a FFL (07?)

I was not aware of the FFL requirement. Going to make finding an engraver more difficult.

Isn't that the whole idea? Mandate something, and then make complying all but impossible.

We can provide all types of basic engraving including NFA.
