I am looking at the dillon 550B. From what I read and saw at OC relaoding it looks like the best fit for me and the multiple calibers I have.

550b and 650 are great investments. If you really want to pump out volume 650 with case feeder.

Nothing wrong with going Blue.

However...how many of you Blue owners still have a high quality single stage press close by? And you know who you are. 550s R GTG no doubt.

I'd shoot for gaining the experience of the cartridge assembly without the distraction of a progressive first. And if the company is making their products in China all bets off.

Me too. I bought .303 dies for my Enfield. Now I research about powder and a bullet. Money is short, though now.

I reload and cast everything, I even have a shotmaker (messy). Decide what you want to reload, pistol caliber only? Get a Dillon Square deal. Rifle and Pistol? Dillon 650. They have the best ergonomics and customer service going.

Shotgun? if you are a casual shooter or have the time, MEC Jr. Just about idiot proof. I went from a Dillon 900SL to 4 Juniors to load all guages, I now have the time and they are easy to use in front of the radio. Less cost also. And you can find decent ones on Ebay.

Casting? Get a RCBS or LEE Pot, again Ebay is your friend. I prefer the Lyman Molds over the cheaper Lee molds. And go for multi cavity 4 minimum.

Dies? If not a Dillon with dies already, their Carbide dies are state of the art, easy to disassemble for cleaning.

Get friends to go in on a bulk order for Powder or Primer, I use Graf and Sons and do 48 Pounds (6 8 pounders) at a time to split Hazmat. They have fixed shipping at only $7.95 Btw...

Or just buy a bunch of ammo now and be done with it.
Reloading is no "Magic Ticket". It still has costs, supply/demand issues, lots of time spent not to mention (never happens to anyone here, of course) the possible bad load that ruins your day.

Yep. It's time.

What kicked my arse into gear was wanting to tailor certain loads for a single-action Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Magnum. And, I could certainly have much more fun shooting .44 Mag that didn't cost +/- .71 per round, either. Then there's .308... .357 Mag/.38 Special... .45ACP... I have dies for all of it except .45; I've quite a pile of commercially-loaded cartridges for my 1911s.

I started with the .41 and using a single-stage RCBS setup. Using Hornady LNL bushings with it is like having a turret press. I like this setup for my present needs. If I ever require volume production, I'll look at a progressive... but I could definitely survive with what I have now. I have a good jump on components. I shall acquire more.

Nothing wrong with a single stage. I think it's better to learn on a single stage than a progressive anyway. Plus, there are things a single stage does better, like case resizing. I have two Dillons but also a Rockchucker for case sizing.

For autoloaders I usually resize everything separately anyway. I check every case in a case gauge because I don't want to load an oversized case.

Ive been rocking out with my single stage classic hornady loader since xmas still need more components to keep reloading 308 and feeding my toys.

A single stage is great device for working up a load but once you have it developed a progressive grinds them out.
