Western auto, Jc penny's, coast to coast, hardware stores.

Many mom and pop stores, I can remember my dad taking us shooting when I was young, sodas, beer, sandwiches, and ammo all in one spot.

Cash & carry. Bought my first rifle from Zodys. My first shotgun from Montgomery Ward. My first hand gun from a cop. I turned 18 in 1968 so I had to do the Fed form but there was no state wait or paperwork. Used guns were no paperwork of any kind. Machine guns were taboo but if you ran the scam you were starting a movie prop rental company you could get the paperwork through. Knew a LaCoDA that licensed a WWII Japanese machine gun that way.

Haha I know it sounds stupid, but I wasn't born prior to that out of curiosity it got me thinking because of the north hollywood shootings. Did they convert to full auto or just go to the store and buy everything

There has been a waiting period for handguns since at least 1976. Rifles were cash and carry with the 4473. Private party transactions were made with buyer meeting seller, a handshake, exchange of goods then both parties go along their way. Sacramento politicians have always been against guns and there were generally some bills introduced but most moved very slow and were ultimately defeated. Fast forward to today, and the last legislative session particularly, and I've never seen such an assault on firearms ownership. It's only going to get worse.

Back in the early 90's I bought a Sig there and had two shotguns transferred out here from TX through them. That was a pretty big shop. Now we have nothing

Sears & Roebuck Co., 1290 Cleveland Avenue in San Diego in the late 50"s.

My brother & I were with our dad (R.I.P.) when he went to Sears & Roebuck on a Thursday after work. (Thursday was payday) In the "Sporting Goods" section, he purchased a "Ted Williams" 12ga pump shotgun.

He went back on Sunday after church and picked it up while we waited in the car with mom (R.I.P.).

I remember shooting it after 8th grade graduation in 1966. I don't know what ever happened to it.
