    She's almost there!

My GF is generally pro-2nd Ammendment. Problem; she is absolutely terrified of guns. Her birthday is coming up and she's actually pointed out a gun (non-roster Walther) and a carry-purse that she might like to have. I don't want to screw this up. Suggestions?

Um how about actually taking her shooting before she buys anything? Take her shooting a .22 and see how she does, then work your way up. If she's never shot before, she's still very far away from carrying a gun everyday.

Instead of buying her a/the gun/purse........ why not give her a gift card for said gun store?
Plus what the fella above me said......

You're GF has to at least be at the point where she can pick up said Walther and make sure it fits her hand, she can reach the controls, etc. If she hasn't or can't even do that, then I would hesitate to buy any gun for her.

However, if she's handled it and it fits her, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to get it for her. Having it could motivate her to continue on her firearms journey. But with that said, it would still be much better if she had actually fired a few guns...and ideally a Walther like what she is looking at...and that she had a little more experience before choosing a gun for herself. Without this you may ultimately find out that the Walther isn't right for her. But it's not an exorbitant amount of money and the gun could always be sold down the line to recoup some of the expense.

As long as you're ok with all this...and possibly owning the Walther for yourself one day if this doesn't work out...get it. But I would probably start with just the gun. Tell her you will buy her the carry purse as a present if she sticks with this and gets her LTC permit. But anyone can get a LTC permit. She's got to put in the time and training to build her proficiency to a level you're comfortable with.

Get her good non-fogging safety glasses and excellent hearing protection-comfortable earmuffs and foam ear plugs.

Umm... she is going to have to go through a pretty rigorous process before she can get a permit to carry.
