By virtue of how they operate, neither the Bullet Button Reloaded aka Patriot Magazine Release and the ARMagLock are "bullet button" style magazine locks.

A tool (tip of a bullet) can not be used to release the magazine on either of magazine locks and both require the receivers to be separated before the magazine can be removed from the firearm.

Both magazine locks appear to comply with the new definition of a "fixed magazine".
Until CA DOJ BOF releases the final regulations pertaining to the changes in the assault weapons laws, it is not 100% certain that either magazine lock will comply with the new definition.

The Bullet Button Reloaded has been officially renamed the Patriot Magazine Release.
AFAIK... the name change was done so that people do not confuse it with being a "bullet button" style maglock.

Patriot Magazine Release (Bullet Button Reloaded) {MSRP $44.95} Production began in 2016.

ARMagLock {MSRP $54.95} Production began in 2014 and has been sold/used to comply with NY & CT assault weapons laws.

Well I, for one, am glad that they have enacted these sensible gun control measures in California. This common sense gun law will limit the amount of damage that a terrorist or psycho may do with an "assault weapon." Fortunately we won't have to worry about any terrorists or mentally ill persons bringing in one of those EBRs from another state as soon as they put up the signs at the California border admonishing them to honor our California laws and barring them from bringing these guns into our midst.

          /sarcasm

Seriously, though...WTF is wrong with Californians that they fall for this ****?

which one requires zero modifications to the gun?

cause i remember there was one out there that required a part to be filed/cut?

or did they fix that little issue to make it work?

That is the Franklin Armory magazine.

It creates a true fixed magazine that can not be dropped out the botton.
You have two choices for installation:
1 - Cut the BHO to allow the magazine to clear
2 - Remove the BHO, install the magazine, and replace the BHO

Option 2 effectively permanently mounts the magazine since it can not be removed without also removing the BHO.

There are a few other mag release products being developed, including one that locks the magazine until the upper is split using a pin that has to be installed into the lower (requires drilling).

Looks like a lot of replies from people who are overthinking the question. Lets focus on the question....

I have both, haven't installed either, but it seems that once installed there will be only one small difference, AR mag lock is swept back a little, which will allow the ejection port gate to drop as it normally does. With patriot release, the gate may be sticking out slightly...

                      Thanks for the info.

For the posting commandos, seems all you care about is increasing your posting numbers instead of answering the thread..

Had you actually asked a question that had a clear answer, you might have gotten it without the back and forth.

Of the options you presented, neither is "better" and neither requires modification to the lower.

One is cheaper if that means "better"

As far as post count? I really don't give a damn. Admin could zero it out tomorrow and I wouldn't care.
