Umm what law is this even in response to?

I see a featureless Grip wrap that covers the 1911's grip safety but makes it so get you can use that safety with just flipping a switch rather than engaging the grip safety. This makes for an awkward new grip which you can't get your thumbs around. Additionally, if anything I find this safety method more dangerous since kids might have trouble activating the grip safety and pulling the trigger at the same time. Pulling a switch though any kid can do, and now the trigger is ready to go.

Oh and this thing covers the mag release forcing you to top load after removing the slide. Did I miss anything?

And I'm curious if this protrudes far enough to make it difficult to remove or lock back a slide.

If laws Force me to do this with my pistols, I'll just lose all my guns in a boating accident instead lol

Good way to think out of the box, OP.

geoint, you might want to read the title of the thread again. He's talking about a 1911 frame combined with a Mech-Tech carbine upper, not a pistol.

Thanks grump for clarifying that to geoint.

So there is no more confusion this is only to be used with a dedicated frame (that I built specificly) for a mech tech carbine upper

          Thanks

My bad. Thought this was for a pistol (obviously). Oops

I hate being mr negative but the problem with calguns is its full of Californians who are barely above liberals with the "follow your dreams" type attitudes sometimes. Which is good if you have a good idea but plenty of people have probably been encouraged down a path they shouldn't cuz their friends and community wouldn't give them any critical feedback, just pats on the back and cheerleading.

I misunderstood what this was for. eince it's use is not a pistol it's actually interesting. Especially given what is coming next year for rifles. maybe this is great since it makes guns featureless (if detachable mags are an evil feature next year).

But anyways, I apologize for not finding out what mech tech was before posting. I just assumed it was the name of your invention and not an already existing line of guns.

If the grip fin is there to make the grip a non-feature, I assume the point is to produce a featureless MechTech carbine. If that's the case, why block off the magazine release at all?

I had a mech tech glock carbine with a shaved down magazine release. I considered a grip wrap but would have put my thumb over the ejection port. I would think it would be an issue with the 1911 as well - but not sure.

I appreciate what you are trying to do. I wonder if you could design some type of fixed mag, like Franklin Armory?

Now that I think about it, doesn't the mag need to be removed to take off the upper? If that is the case, my idea would not work.

If the OP makes the resultant firearm featureless by installing the wrap on the frame and not having a collapsible stock or flash hider, there's no need to block the magazine release that I can see. One would have to be careful to install the wrap before mounting the Mech-Tech unit on the frame so as not to create an "assault weapon" but otherwise I can't see any problem with it.

Am I missing something obvious here?

I think this was discussed already. Quiet will be along shortly. If I remember correctly, the mech tech uppers have a barrel shroud so you can't install a grip wrap to make them featureless. Even if you could install a grip wrap, it puts your thumb over the ejection port.

That's why I suggested a fixed mag, like Franklins. However, I'm not sure if you can assemble and disassemble the mech tech upper with a loaded magazine. I don't think you can.

You can make a sub 2k featureless.

I think I may be confusing assault pistols and rifles. I'm going to wait for Quiet to chime in. He knows the laws and order of assembly/disassembly. Oceanbob will be able to provide more information too.
