Do a search for returned firearms and PM the OP on those posts. There have been a few CGN members who have had their firearms returned after they were stolen. At least one was years later. They should be able to shed some light on the subject.Originally posted by BooshankyI've got a pretty resilient cornhole though.Originally posted by BuddhabellySo take your sheeps and go home. No guns stolen, but my range bag was taken out of my apartment. Several hundred bucks worth of stuff inside, most tragically the Kadet kit for my CZ-75, about $300 by itself. I called the NRA ArmsCare insurance ($1000 coverage with NRA membership), but was told they don't cover accessories except those that are attached to a firearm at the time of the theft.Comment

I had Farmer's Insurance.
Years prior to my burglary, when I mentioned the value of my firearms collection to my insurance agent, I increased my personal asset coverage at his suggestion. Several years later they made a change and said my personal asset coverage was limited to 1000 for all my weapons. I do not recall any notification of this fact.
After I was burglarized, when I argued that I should have more coverage, their records only indicated the increase in personal asset coverage. The two agents in the office had no recollection of why I changed.
The burglar only stole two pistols, but Farmer's lowballed me.
However, since my limit was only 1k for both of them, I got it.

My aunt and uncle had a pistol, and other things stolen. The insurance company paid a low ball price on everything. When they recovered the gun the insurance company wasn't going to return it. My aunt demanded they return it and cut them a check for the amount she was paid.Comment

Not necessarily...
Yes there are stories in all kinds of different directions in this, as to why his picture raised my curiosity as it is not a common thing to bring up. Maybe he will reply.

I saw the pic in some thread about Asians in German uniforms.
He has his belt on in the pic so I was wondering if that meant it was taken when he wasn't a prisoner.
He has no ammo pouches on his belt so I would guess he was impressed for labor - not trusted to carry a weapon.

The pic interested me because his face is similar to my dads.Comment

Nearly 20 years in the insurance biz
My advice would be to itemize (also called 'specifying') your guns on what is called "Valuable Articles Coverage", sometimes it's called a Floater. This is coverage above your general contents coverage. The good thing about VAC is that there is no deductible and because each gun is specifically described with a pre-determined value (which you determine), you know EXACTLY what you'll get if they're stolen. Great companies that offer VAC are Chubb or Fireman's Fund. There may be others to consider. You can't buy VAC on it's own, it will have to be in conjunction with your homeowner or renter coverage.
One thing to remember, VAC is intended for collectibles, not guns used in the field. For guns that get lots of use, they should be insured under your general contents coverage (either renters or homeowners coverage). Just make sure your policy doesn't limit the amout of coverage for firearms.
Get to a independent insurance agent that represents Chubb or Fund and they'll get you to the right company. Good luck.Comment

Yes, I had three of them taken from my apartment years ago. I lucked out when the local PD raided a drug house and found them there. The person that stole them from me was having someone watch them for safekeeping. Obviously the thief didn't take into consideration that their friends were dealing and were under surveillance. Lucky for me, the PD returned them to me shortly thereafter. The person that stole them went to jail...sigpicComment
