Can you ID this 9mm ammo?

While working yesterday, someone rang the doorbell, so I go answer it to find an older man with a shopping bag full of shotgun, rifle and pistol ammo. I thanked him and brought the bag into our day room and everyone dives in and grabs pretty much everything in the bag.

Only thing that looked suspicious were these 9mm cartridges. Anyone know if these are military or corrosive? Markings look like WW, 9 (or 6) and 41. The crimp around the primers remind me of the Egyptian subgun ammo I bought recently, but those have weird symbols on them, while these look like Euro or American markings.

I believe the MM code is South African (Musgrave Manufacturers and Distributors) and the 41 is for 1941 and the 9 is for 9mm.

It says 9 MM 41.

Supposedly 'sterile marked' 9mm ammo, and with the blue primer annulus and crimped primer (like your pic) it is supposed to be US or Canada production and boxer primed. Which means it should not be corrosive.

Could be from the 40s or 50s.

I'm pretty sure that is Canadian and non corrosive. The similarly headstamped 8mm Mauser is.

Looks interesting, judging from Half Cockeds link there's a good chance it was made for OSS types in WWII. I'd definitely keep it (or sell it if I had too) as a fascinating bit of history.

I have had people where I used to work, ask me what I was doing at lunch. They asked me to meet them in the parking lot. I go out to their car and they have a trunk full of "Ammunition" of various calibers and styles. They helped somebody move and took it for me because they knew I shoot and it was going to get dumped or some other irresponsible end. This happened a lot. Last trip cleaning out my MIL's house before selling it, I went up in the Attic for the last time and found a paper sack with a bunch of .22LR and the "Magazine" that went with a Mossberg .22 we inherited. I was in that Attic a dozen times, I just happened to look on the other side of one of the "Posts" in the center of the Attic. It happens.

If I worked at a gun shop, I'd be so in the red, financially. Actually, I'm working on my 18th year as a FF/EMT with the SFFD. You wouldn't believe the stuff people bring for us to dispose of safely.

Which station? I've worked in several of the stations over the last couple years.

Some shops won't let the employees have a crack at the guns that come in until the regular customers do first. I'm not sure in every PD's regulations on keeping the ammo brought in for disposal I'm sure some are strict about it.

I once was given many buckets of reloaded ammo by a CGNer for $20. I pulled the bullets and salvaged some of the desirable brass. Rest I gave away to someone with the acknowledgement that if he shot it it was at his own risk and he should probably just salvage for components.
