    Arming your neighbors...

I travel a lot - so my house is empty for sometimes months at a time. I also live in a very nice area. I have been living there for a good while now - I have actually spoken at one of my neighbors funerals.

After the funeral the widow asked me about purchasing a handgun, I took her to a few shops and she told me what she liked and didn't like. Her late husband was a Navy man and she has shot a 1911 before, so after searching around she decided she liked the Sig P6 German trade in the most. She loves it and her son and his girlfriend who live with her now also purchased P6's, a Desert Eagle, FAL, and a RIA 1911.

One day when I just came back I was in bed sleeping and a suspicious car pulled up in front of my house, they tried calling me but I was asleep due to jet lag. It was around 3AM. The son called the police and walked into my property with his P6 - turns out there was 3 kids is a truck plotting to steal one of my cars and had a bunch of drugs on them. Needless to say they were arrested.

After that incident I invited all my neighbors that are interested in shooting or already know how to shoot - I took them to the range and gave them a P6 (threw FFL of course) - costs me $200 (per pistol) to have the best neighborhood watch program ever and protect all my property and assets.

I highly suggest it. ESPECIALLY IN THIS DAY AND TIME.

FYI: Not everyone lives in a nice neighborhood or even want "certain" neighbors armed.

"Nice" neighborhood only means thats where to go for "nice" stuff. Why rob the ghetto for chump change when you can rob a "nice" 'hood?

            And very neighborly of you

I don't want none of my Neighbors armed; Why? Main reason is there a bunch of igits.

If I gave them ~ advised them to get firearms; they would probably sell them and or trade them in, for Coke.

Then thier's the idiot neighbor (who moved in last year) to my left, Who thinks he's Capt. America (use to be NG Reserve), And called the cops on me, when I was going shooting. Saw the case's in the car, as I was leaving out the Driveway.

Then came over the next day, and told me, I called the cops on you, but I still want everything to be 'cool'.

I live around a bunch of retards. If anything happens, like the Northridge Earthquake, La Riots, etc. I'll likely be keeping my Neighbors AWAY from me.

But I take it, that some places actually believe that Neighbors are suppose to help each other. So you'r Idea isn't that bad. YMMV.

I'd say it really depends on the neighbors. From the feedback thus far, there are some neighbors we don't want armed. Then, there are some neighbors for which guns and shooting just aren't their core life interests - so they might get a gun from you, but perhaps be careless in storage or inept at usage. I'd say it definitely is a case by case basis. Good story, though.

                          Sounds like my neighbors.

I was hanging out with some of my neighbors (two brothers) in the yard between our two houses and we see someone walking up to one of the other homes on the cul-de-sac. First thing out of the older brother's mouth to the younger brother was, "hey, go grab a pistol, I'm going to see what this guy wants."

I like my neighbors just fine.

Knowing your neighbors both good and bad is just common sense. The OP is a luccky man to have such neighbors and a smart man for reaching out the way he did.
                            Good job.

Thanks guys, my neighbors are very intelligent and go shooting more then I do now - they are also -very- safe. I am surprised more of you do not do this, it give me great comfort knowing that I have armed people watching my house almost 24/7. I don't have a CCW so if someone ever follows me home I can just make a call for my neighbor to meet me at my residence with one of his firearms (while I wait 30 min for the police to arrive). They also have keys to my house in case of emergency - I have known these people for years and trust them completely.

If you have a firearm you are tired of and your neighbor is a smart trust worthy person, I suggest you do a transfer and give them some lessons and take them to the range. If they ask why, just say, "Obama"
