    Stocking up on ammo

As a 19 year old with some handguns inherited from my grandfather, it's hard to get ammo expect for my luger p08 chambered in 22lr. The others are chambered in 380 and 32 s&w long. I wanted to stock up on a bunch of ammo before it even gets harder for me to just go to the range to shoot away. I was wondering if you guys had any tips for me to stock up cheap and with in bulk before next year?

Step 1: Buy discounted Cabelas gift cards when they come up for sale on Staples or eBay. The ones you are looking for are 15-20% off.

Step 2: Wait for a Cabelas promo like 10% off + free ship

Step 3: Use ActiveJunky for another 6% - 12% cash back when you shop at Cabelas

Step 4: Buy the shizzle out of ammo that is on sale at Cabelas, stacking all the above discounts and cashback.

    Step 5: Rinse, wash, repeat.

Watch the Deals, Sales and Coupons subforum. SkyHawk and others post some awesome deals there when they find them.

There are discounted gift cards available for other stores like Dick's and Gander Mountain. Search giftcardgranny.com. The discount amount varies a lot from 12% to 4%. Use proper precautions with discount cards, read my thread and from others regarding them as the Deals section.

Active Junky and Hunting Obsession may give you cash back (Check or PayPal) quarterly on these sites too if you start the purchase from their websites. If you sign up from the referral links people post in the Deals section, AJ will give you and the referral $5 each in your account.

While there are ways to save money on ammo, at the end you still have to earn the money. Work part time after school or get a second job/overtime, offer your services to people you know: mow lawns, walk their dog, wash windows, clean their rain gutters, etc. Your efforts will be rewarded. Good luck to you.

Of course you need to be 21 to own handguns here in the PRK and IIRC you need to be 21 to buy handgun ammo.

Join Sportsman's guide for $29 for a year membership, they have free shipping a lot and really low prices on ammo. The free shipping alone pays for the membership after the first shipment...Ammo is heavy.

Sorry gw, this is not accurate. Veteran members should know better.

            21 or Older for Handguns

Both Federal law and California law prohibit transfer of handguns to those under 21 years of age.
Parents and legal guardians may give firearms to their children, but handguns only to 18 and older.
Parents and legal guardians may lend a handgun to a minor for certain purposes, for the duration of the activity.
Other adults may lend a handgun to a minor, with parents' written permission, and for certain purposes, for the duration of the activity.
California law restricts possession of ammunition to 18 and older, except under certain circumstances.
Exemptions for transfer to over 18, under 21 by parents/legal guardians or grandparent with parent/legal guardian permission are contained in: Penal Code 27505

Obviously we don't know the details but it sure sounds like this was the mechanism OP used and would be perfectly legal here in California.

Check these two websites. Just watch out for shipping charges!
In addition to the advice above, get a Cabelas VISA card.

^^^THIS, I've been doing the above method for the past 6 months and I'm up to 10k of 5.56 and 5k of 9mm (those are the only two caliber firearms I own) and saved quite a lot of $. I'm building a 308 now... that's another caliber to stock up for me.

Don't forget to save your spent brass. Not worth a lot as resale but every penny counts.

Anyone know where I can find Brownell's discount gift cards? They have some harder to find ammo Cabelas doesnt have.

380 and 32 Long? That's some pretty unpopular ammo. I've never even heard of 32 long and I have an ammo collection of about 75 calibers.

I'd keep an eye on the ammo sales here for 380. Should be cheap. As far as the 32 long? Good luck.

I would sell the ones chambered in 32 long and 380 and get a 9 mm.

Www.Targetsportsusa.com has excellent prices with free shipping if more than 1000 rounds are bought.

Also, I would focus on your college studies more than spending time hunting ammo. Better to solidify your future with good grades now to get a well-paying career in the future. I wouldn't worry about overspending few bucks here and there or even stockpiling ammo at your age.

At cabelas it only lets me use one code at checkout, and the activejunky code doesn't work for me
