Depends really on what you're looking to do. There are plain Jane GI style 1911s from the Philippines that run in the $500 range to the equally plain Springfield and Colts that'll run a little more $650-800. And there are the enhanced/tactical guns with a few solid upgrades that'll run a few hundred more.

So depending on your needs there are different answers.

And feel free to ignore smart asses that don't add anything meaningful to your thread.

Kimber, Springfield, Sig, are just a few that jump out. I personally have a Sig Nitron Rail and I love it. Very smooth and has not skipped a beat.

Just as an FYI, paying a high price for a 1911 doesn't necessarily mean you get a reliable 1911! My Father In-Law purchased a Para target 1911 and this thing was a POS. Always jammed regardless of what was fed to it, went back to the shop twice under warranty, still jammed all the time. I finally told him to get rid of it. He then picked up a Dan Wesson and he's happy. Great pistol.

As far as OP's ?, you can plan on spending anywhere from 1k to 1,500 for a decent 1911. Unless you can find a used one in good condition.

My bad on the poor grammar but I don't care and I just got off a 14hr shift at work so I'm not really to worried about punctuation at the moment. Lastly I'm not writing a book report or worried about professionalism or grading... just sayin

Dan Wesson PM7 was my choice. I would buy it again.

Springfield is a great way to go, dollar for dollar it is a great value, and a lifetime warranty. I had a rock island 1911 As my first gun and decided to go up to the Springfield loaded and haven't looked back since (although now I have an MC Op 1911 from Springfield). The rock island wasn't bad but comparing the quality and fit and finish to the Springfield is no question. Once I racked the slide on the springer I could tell it was in a different class then the rock island.

What are your intentions for it? Range toy? Home defense? Target shoot? Competition gun? Safe Queen?

                        What's your price range?

Well I'd like to go to the range with it but also, as with any gun for me, it will be for home protection as well.

I'm looking to trade an ar15 that I'm putting together or just looking to spend 650 to 750$.

I concur! I asked a similar question as to what 1911 I should get and the majority had nothing but great things to say about the Springfield Armory. I too own a MC Operator as a result and couldn't be any more happier! I thought I was hard set on the Colt M45 1911 but people talked me out of it. I can't say much about the other 1911 but if you got $1100-1300 go with the MC Operator and you won't regret it. I didn't!!!
