Went into a gun shop today. Clerk told me if I register my guns as AW then I will be subject to doj inspection at any time they want. They said they have had that written into law since the first AW registration. Is this fud or not.

I also have never heard of anyone who was registered being inspected.

Fud. If you have an AW permit to import and manufacture opens the door to the inspections.

That sucks cause they are telling everyone not to comply. They seem to be pushing featureless instead.

I say FUD - I've never had a surprise RAW inspection any time of day, let alone middle of the night.

Heck ... I have a Type 01 FFL License and even that, when they do a Compliance Inspection, they call a week ... two, three weeks ahead and make appointment. Compliance inspection is NO JOKE, nothing to shake a stick at. But, if you have all your ducks in a row like I do ... nothing to worry about, it's simply a process, a formality.

Now, I had looked into obtaining a Class 03 back in 2008. Decided not to because too expensive and no action, or rather not worth it.

Class 03 and the ATF can surprise inspect your records on the fly. And IIRC the ATF Agent explained to me that they can drop in on you, surprise you, only during your posted business hours for Compliance Inspection.

A C&R licensee can be audited by BATFE. No surprise visits. They call in advance for an appointment. The licensee can select to have the inspection either at the licensed premises or the local BATFE office.

I think you might be thinking of maybe an SOT license???

Yaaa ... it's a Class vs. Type thing / Type 01 Dealer / Type 03 C&R / Class 03 SOT ... it's confusing, it doesn't make sense.
