If you are more of a "classic" kind of person, and/or you plan to shoot in competition, then the 686 may fit your taste better as it is a 6-shot revolver. Otherwise, an extra round is a pleasant bonus.

I tend to prefer a 6-shot revolver. I have never owned a 7-shot revolver but have a few of the 6-shot variations. Good luck!

There are speed loaders. I don't know about moon clips, the cylinder is not designed for them I guess you can have it modified though.

7 shots is nice, but I'll want my next one to share speed loaders with my 6-shot 686 and 586.

If your buying used, you'll find many more pre-locks in 6-shot configuration.

Can't really go wrong either way.

Cant say which one is more preferred, but I got a 7 shot because that's what the store had in stock. ITS AWESOME.
