    The new Saltworks Rifles problem

Before the new owner of Saltworks I had ordered a SWR-M5 builders kit. I paid for the kit (almost $600). My product was never delivered. The new owner finally after many e-mails told me that the previous owner was very difficult to work with and that maybe my bank could get the refund. Bad move on my part that I used my debit card to pay for the kit and nothing could be done. I sent the new owner that news about 2 weeks ago and he is not replying. I am at the point now that I will never get my M5 kit or my money. Needless to say I will never use a debit card for a purchase like this and will never recommend Saltworks to any of the members of my shooting circle and club.
Just for the record, the notice on Saltworks website about all of the customers receiving a refund is false.

Have you PM's william from salt works here on the board? Search "salt works" and the big SW thread should pop up, scroll through the last couple pages and you'll see his name. Best of luck!

No bueno, they were on my shortlist, I'll wait to see how they deal with this.

Just another example of how you should NEVER use a debit card to buy anything---if you had used a proper credit card, you would already have your $$$ back!
I SHRED all debit cards the moment they arrive by mail...

I will PM the owner. I hate getting burned but agree it is my own fault.

The new owner seems to be trying to make things right. I sincerely hope he takes care of this.

The whole Saltworks thing seemed too good to be true the moment they appeared on this forum. I could tell right away people would have problems. But y'all got blinded. Only deal with solidified companies with good track records. Not dudes on a forum who try to start their own firearm company. I see this all the time on musicians/guitar forums. Random members post photos of guitars or amps they've built and people want to buy them. So they start their own "company," begin taking orders, and then fail to deliver because they're in over their head and don't know how to run a business. People get screwed over. Threads get posted. Maybe a few people here and there get an actual delivered product. But within two years or so, the company disappears. And they leave a bunch of people with no resolution.

              Good luck.

Final update on this. I emailed William at Saltworks and he gave me every indication he would look into it. After waiting a week or 2 for a reply I emailed him again. He replied by telling me that the previous owner said the order was cancelled. I replied that I had not been refunded any amount of money. Since that time I have tried to contact him and he will not reply. So, potential customers beware. The new Saltworks has no integrity and I encourage others to proceed with caution.

Am I missing something? You were defrauded by Mr. A from Fly-by-nite Co. who does not know how to run a business. Mr. B sees that Mr. A does not know how to run a business and sees an opportunity to run that business at a profit. So Mr. B buys the business with all of it's assets and liabilities. He is shown a profit and loss ledger and all of the receipts and debits. Mr. A tells Mr. B that your order had been cancelled implying that the money had been returned to you. So now Mr. B is supposed to give YOU the $600 so that instead of YOU getting burned by Mr. A, Mr. B gets burned for the $600 for a transaction that he had nothing to do with in the first place?

                  Am I getting this right?

Sorry if I'm sounding like a Richard right now but I don't see how Mr. B is responsible for Mr. A defrauding you. I'm sorry that you did not see this coming but neither did Mr. B. I liken this to going to your local gun store and buying a gun. You find the gun at another store for a lower price. So you ask to speak to the owner of the gun store with the lower price and tell him that HE must now pay YOU the difference of what you were overcharged at the local gun store where you bought the overpriced piece.

Your putting your emotions ahead of your brain here. I feel for you losing that much coin in one shot. Instead of fixating on Mr. B here maybe you should be serving Mr. A with a small claims lawsuit and getting the court's help in getting your money back. ORRRR...you can call the police and tell them your story of getting defrauded and get a pound of flesh from Mr. A through the criminal courts.

But I'm just not seeing Mr. B's liability here.

I think the issue is that the new owner is trying to continue a company with a bad rep. If you don't want the drama of the old company change the name and start with a new rep.

You answered your own question in your first paragraph...

Mr. B may not personally owe the OP any money, but the company that he bought does, regardless of who the owner is.

It doesn't matter what Mr. A says. Unless the profit/loss ledger shows the refund and can be backed up with a cashed check or electronic transfer, the money is still owed.
