Ammo storage in crawl space - containers?

I live in an old house with an elevated wood floor and a crawl space. I have enough ammo that I'm not comfortable keeping all of it in the same area, because I have no clue how much load the floor can take.

The option I'm considering is keeping it in the crawl space. It's dirt and gets somewhat damp. It's a crawl space, so it won't be too easy to move large ammo cans in/out.

Any suggestions on what to use?

30cal ammo cans placed on a raised wood/metal or plastic platform. I use to have all my ammo in 50cal cans. Old age and too many surgeries now have me using 30cal cans. A 50can can full of 9mm or 45ACP or 50cal bullets is just plain too much for me now.

I would use the metal GI cans with good seals on them. You will find if you do you will not need anything else to keep the ammo dry.

You might also go under the floor and add bracing where you store ammo and especially if you have a heavy safe. We did that for a friend years ago and all is still good.

Throw a pallet down there, maybe a moisture barrier but you don't want water pooling above it.

Good condition ammo cans on top.

Use ammo cans or a container that has a good seal.
A broken water pipe will flood down there before you know what happen. Earthquake + broken water pipe. Maybe be better to reinforce the floor.

Abour 250. If there is no shade, basic insulation will do.

All good sugestions. Consider all of the above. Be certain to clearly mark your containers to avoid confusion if in crawlspace for the sake of banging your head on rafters..

I concur with others on a raised base and ammo cans on top. I always throw some silica gel packets in my ammo cans just in case, so you may want to consider this as well.

Make cache tubes out of PVC and fill them with ammo. You can make them long and thin to fill all the nooks and crannies.

Good idea. Glue cap on one end and female adapter with plug on other would be what I'd do...

I'll probably be storing it under a porch (completely enclosed) or, if that isn't enough space, under a section of the house that was completely rebuilt a few years ago to modern seismic standards. Sadly, said section of the house isn't a reasonable place to store it.

Why PVC rather than ammo cans? And I'm not too worried about space down there.

How about a few ammo cans each in something like a radio flyer wagon or rolling plastic garden seat thing?

You could tie a rope to the handle and 'park' them under the house using a long stick or piece of PVC pipe to push them into position from the access hatch/door. Leave the retrieval rope ends just inside the hatch to quickly and easily pull them out when needed.

It would save a lot of crawling. I hate crawling under there. You could even add a tag to the rope ends indicating the contents of each wagon.

Just a random thought.
