During recent educational training through my employment I was able to get hands on experience with high stress or stress induced operation.
Without going into a long story... ha!
Learning about the Sympathetic Nervous system (SNS) *Fight or Flight
Within 150 milliseconds when startled or surprised the human body reacts in 4 major ways.
1. Eyes Dilate, if combined with a drastic increase of blood flow you can loose up to 70% of your peripheral vision, almost experiencing tunnel vision.
2. Your upper torso and head "jumps forward."
3. Your arms bend at the elbow.
4. Your hands automatically begin to tighten into a fist.
Number 1 and number 4 were constant struggles for some of the individuals involved.
#4 If Adrenalin is introduced by this scenario then the persons fist will literally start to ball up (within 150 milliseconds) and can create a contraction force of up to 25 pounds of pressure, this is almost twice as what it takes to discharge a double action revolver.
This is a real thing, imagine sweeping your house, your trigger control is great, however you are in active ready and finger is on the trigger. You turn the corner to see/hear something that surprises you, it is amazing how many people do not pull the trigger, but squeeze the trigger out of reaction.
This drill was both informative and a bit scary to see what reactions our bodies have to instant stress induction or basically what happens when you get the 5*&^ scared out of you and what your initial response is.
