12 gauge load difference steel/lead

So I have 12 gauge loads store bought, how can I tell if steel shot or lead. Don't have boxes. Or is there a way??

You can sacrifice one and cut it open.
You can run a magnet over them.
You can shoot one into a phonebook and see what came out.
