    Epilepsy/ DMV/ DROS

Is epilepsy a disqualifying condition? Driver license recently suspended, after a big seizure ended up ER and doctors notified DMV. No other issues on driving record. But now Dros denied by DMV.

I presume (and should've thought about it first) DMV flagged the Dros due to my license not being active, so technically not a valid ID. But wanted to make sure before I go through the hassle of getting a state ID that I'm not just gonna get denied again. Otherwise, would my passport work?

Epilepsy is not disqualifying, as it is not a mental illness. Can you call DMV and ask for the lowdown?

Edit: Sorry to hear about your situation.

It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.

      DROS denied or delayed?

Use a California state i.d. next time.

A buddy of mine was delayed recently because of the same issue. His license was only suspended a couple months ago because he had a siesure (spelling) on his drive home. Never had anothet fit before or after.

My fiance is doing dros on her first gun. I guess the store called her saying DMV flagged it and to come in for a refund.

Not sure about calling DMV, I've never been denied or delayed so I've never had to deal with this. Not sure where to go from here. To me logical next step would be to get a state ID and try again.

And then redoing it with state ID was fine right after?

Yep. He bought a two new ar lowers with me a few weeks ago. The key is the i.d. has to be current and valid.

                <------- Epileptic.

Never had a dros delayed or denied because of it. Only time my license was suspended was the first time i had a seizure. Probably isn't an issue for me since i didn't shoot or buy any guns till i was free from seizures for a year and had already had my license reinstated.

Best of luck to you and the GF. It can take a while to diagnose the exact type and cause along with the correct med levels.

My former brother-in-law has epilepsy & has always had a driver's license. But I've never known him to have a seizure.

A guy in my diabetes support group passed out while driving & woke up in the ER. His driver's license was never suspended.

Passing out and having a seizure are different animals all together. Unless we are talking about passing out and having a seizure.

they are different, but, if either is happening while you're driving I could see where they (DMV) might be forced to take some action

i've had to pull over a few times when my blood sugar level dropped, i usually have a candy bar or something in my vehicle to get it back up, it's scary

the reason his license was never suspended was probably due to the fact that the doctor did not write a letter to the DMV asking for the license to be suspended.

if you tell a doctor that you are diabetic and he finds out you do not take your medications or feels that you do not have it under control, he is the one that is supposed to report you to the dmv.

Medically completely different, but when it comes to crashing a vehicle and killing someone because your incapacited by a dissability, not different at all.

I have a child with such a dissability that will have to deal with driving in a just a few years.
