    Cheap Gun Safe

$399.99 is this too good to be true?? Most "gun safes" start @ 800 bucks.

I am not too worried about fire and water damage, I just need a place to secure my firearms... My daughter is growing up fast and I want to keep them in a safe place... Is this worth buying??

I just ordered the 5-long-gun model Sentry from Wal-Mart online last night. $180, with shipping and tax $216. WalMart has the 14 gun unit you linked also, but it is $438, so it looks like the Home Depot price wins for that unit

If your not worried about fire then that would be a great safe

The product you are trying to view is not currently available.
It's gone. Might have been a misprint.

Since were on the subject, I am also looking for a safe. I checked out that one at my local HD and also found this one at lowes:

How does it compare? The site says this one is fire rated. I know, its not ALOT of fire protection, but it should be better than the sentry that isnt rated at all, right? It also says it has 12.2 cu/ft where the sentry has 8.2 cu/ft.

As far as security, the liberty safe has 4-1 locking bolts. IIRC, the sentry has 5 locking and 3 dead, so I think it should be a better bet for security. But, if youre like me, you live in a nice neighborhood and the point of a safe is a deterrent to the common burglar instead of him just walking off with whatever.

BTW, a couple of the ones I saw at Home Depot were display models and had writing/scuff marks all over them. Im sure you could haggle a little off the 399 price.

The fire=proof Lowe's one is better, despite one less bolt. The Sentry's aren't that hard to get into. Keeps the kids out though. Look at the weight difference, the Lowe's one is much heavier

This safe has pretty thin walls, but with a little work that liability can be mitigated.

If you can bolt it down where the sides & top are not exposed then that can limit someone attacking it with a saw or grinder, which could open it up in just a minute or so.

If you can limit the clearance in front of the door to what you need for it to swing open, that hampers prying. Even better, use some JB Weld or epoxy to glue some 3/8 or 1/2 by 1" bar stock inside the frame where the bolts contact. The strength of the bolts isn't important if they only contact the thin folded edge of the safe body.

If your daughter is unfamiliar with levers and power tools then all you need to do is keep it from tipping over...

Walmart usually sells a Sentry 8 gun as well, they are in stock and out of stock constantly yet always seem to get more in. I think the had them prices at $280. Home Depot also sales the job-site tool chests. You can get a 36 inch by 18 inch chest for about $260. If you don't mind breaking down your rifles it's an option.
