Hunter shoots himself climbing fence

A man was found dead at about 10 a.m. Thursday in the area of Cajalco Road east of La Sierra Avenue in Lake Mathews, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

The man apparently shot himself as he climbed through a barbed-wire fence while hunting, the department said.

The man's identity has not been released.

The Sheriff's Department is asking anyone who might know who the man is to call 951-210-1000.

Sorry to hear the story. But, that is why the hunter safety class teaches the way to cross the fence with a loaded rifle. When I teach a hunter safety class, gun safety is the biggest lesson in my class.
