    Experienced my first squib....need help!

Was at chabot today w/ my S&W Shield. was shooting factory ammo and it caught me off guard. the round is stuck in there real good. the older gentleman with the mustache tried punching it out but no good. Now i need to take it to the gunsmith.

can anyone recommend a gunsmith that has dealt with squid loads stuck in their barrels? I am in the San Jose/Fremont area. any idea how much it could cost?

If you can get the barrel out of the slide then it is cheaper to buy a new barrel sometimes as you don't know if that squib caused a bulge or not.

Hammer it out with a wooden dowel or a brass rod. And are you sure you were shooting factory ammo? According to most here squibs only happen with Freedom Munitions ammo

You can Mic the barrel to see if it's bulged.

Squibs can happen with any ammo...

            Caliber?
            Grain?
            HP ? FMJ?

Take the barrel off, toss it in the freezer overnight and try to knock it out with a wood or brass rod within a few minutes of taking it out of the freezer. Of course, this is assuming you have the proper tools like a vise, rods, and hammer

Man card revoked. Go to Home Depot buy a hammer and a wooden dowel. Then swear, whack, swear, drink beer.

Reapply for man card in 6 months, 3 if you smash your finger while swearing.

I heard second hand from a friend who has a friend that got a squib -- and it wasn't Freedom Munitions ammo. ...

I'm pretty sure there's a 2 year backlog on man card applications. I heard its pushing wait times for reapplicants.
I see your swartz is as big as mine, now let's see how well you handle it

                          I would go with that...

                          Step1- field strip weapon
Step2- Place chamber end of barrel on a wooden or hard rubber block
Step3- Use hammer and wooden dowel to remove stuck projectile
Step4- Return triumphant to Calguns with manliness restored.

Also make sure that is a nice block of softwood, like pine, under the chamber while you are pounding it out DO NOT EVER hammer the barrel against anything harder, like metal, stone, concrete..

Never had a squib, knock on wood, but it's still a good reminder lesson for all to be aware it can happen when you least expect it. I've seen what happens when a live round is fired with a squib stuck in the barrel. It ain't a pretty sight and another reason you should wear eye protection. I also wear a good pair of leather gloves. I like my fingers attached.

I'm selling my man card. Only $4500 and under 250 swear words.

Firm. No shipping. Low ballers will be ignored. No trades.

BTW, OP, Harbor Freight has a 7 dollar dead blow hammer. Home Despot sells brass rods. Ain't no thang.
