    Hey Everyone!

Hey everyone I am new to this sight, just found out about it. I am a 27yr old gun fanatic. I have a nice collection of 12 guns. I live in CA (duh) and really wish I could own better guns. I just wanted to see if anyone had any feed back about building a CA legal AR-15. How much total costs ran, and how easy it still is in the year 2009.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Damn, I wish I knew anything about the AR-15 platform... and the differences between "sight" and "site"

Welcome! I'm pretty new myself, but there is plenty of info to be found here. If you use the search function at the top of the page you'll be ale to find plenty of threads of people building up AR's. A lot of people are in the same boat as you are, myself included, so demand is greater than supply at the moment. If you scour the "For Sale" section, you might be able to piece together a rifle for around $1k, but it may take time. It seems like the important part to get is the lower receiver, which requires a legal FFL transfer, as that is the part that is regulated, whereas the upper receiver, stocks, etc. are accessories, and can be shipped directly to your home.
Just make sure to search the forums, and you'll find everything you need.

        Good luck!
        This is my sig line.

From one newb to another - welcome! And yeah, $1,000.00 is about right for all the parts ( sans bells and whistles ). They're pretty easy to build, just not so easy getting all of the parts right now with the demand the way it is. The upper receivers are still a bit scarce, but the selection of lowers isn't too bad right now.

Welcome to Calguns, but I wouldn't use the term "gun fanatic". Some people may have a wrong idea.

                  start there

here's some details from a sticky in that forum

focus on this post in that thread

the cost is significantly more in 09 than it was before. parts are harder to find. quality may slump because of the frenzied buying and subsequent frenzied production (speculation). otherwise cost is up to what quality of parts and what type of "build" you're doing.

Well, it wasn't meant to be taken too seriously... Looks like the OP appreciates it, though.
