    .458 SOCOM ammo question

Anyone have an idea of where to get decent deals on .458 socom ammo besides reloading? Not sure I want to make the initial investment in that right now. Looked on ammoseek but figured I'd ask here as well. Thanks for the help

Yeah I've noticed they seem to be the cheapest. I'm not expecting it to actually be cheap but just looking for the cheaper side of expensive haha. Thanks for the help

Pretty expensive caliber to shoot without reloading. I am going to build my first .458 Socom. With careful shopping, I will be at .40 per round to reload using 300 gr jacketed bullets.

Not a popular round so most don't make it. Rarity raises the price. I see the same thing with other calibers like Grendel.

However, that big of a bang has got to be worth something?

Is there a range in Vegas with a full auto SOCOM? Bang bang, shoot shoot.

Whoa .40 per round? Maybe I will make the initial investment. Would it be possible to get some guidance from you on getting the cost so low?

40 cents a round......not going to happen. Brass alone will run you about 65-75 cents a piece depending upon how much you purchase at a time. Plan on 1.25 - 1.50 each depending upon what you select for "target" and the good stuff will be way above that.

What's the go to powder for the 458 SOCOM? I have a about 6 pounds of Lil Gun which I have around for 300 Blackout... And I never shoot the gun Haha. Maybe I can add a 458 build to my safe...

That's what I was thinking. But if be curious to see how that works out. At $1.50 ish each reloaded I'm not sure it's worth buying all reloading equipment. I found factory for $1.70ish a round. Probably cheap but it's just for the range

The good thing about the brass is that it will last for a long time as the pressures are so low. Might depend if you plan on shooting often or a few times a year. If you shoot it on a regular basis reloading may pay off over the long term. The initial setup is what gives folks sticker shock. I received an order of 100 Lehigh 300 grain match bullets yesterday and they cost 83.00 so that puts me at 1.50 without powder and primer. The stuff I keep ready for emergency comes in at 3.50 each for the factory load.

Lil gun, H110, and H4198 are rather common. I use H110 as I also use the same powder to load 500 Smith so it saves on having multiple powders on hand

That's good to know cause I was just talking to a friend with a 500 s&w about reloading. Maybe we can make this work. Thanks for the information

Always a good idea to have a buddy get you started.
You buy the dies, brass, powder, primers and bullets and your buddy already has everything else.
You get hooked pretty quick so be prepaired to pony up for your own equipment.
Really makes shooting expensive centerfire tolerable. I no longer think about costs of a perticular cartridge while deciding to buy.

look around for the guys getting out of it and you can buy used brass or even brand new brass they never loaded

otherwise Starline is the only manufacturer that I know of and they only do runs a couple of times a year of certain brass

also buy the powder in bulk along with primers online to cut costs.

Got a .50 Beowulf AR, same issue. I got 60 rounds of ammo with the gun so I have a start on brass, but it ain't cheap for bullets and they take a lot of powder.

Man the fireball when firing is a blast (no pun intended) though.
