    Shooting outside of ranges Pasadena

    Hey guys

Ive been going to indoor and outdoor ranges but find this boring. All I'm doing is shooting at cardboard. Now that I got a handgun, I also want a shotgun but where can I use these things? Where can I practice with steel rounds and buckshots? Ranges don't allow these.

I live in Pasadena, CA and want go to some empty land where i can setup my own fun shooting range. Any recommendations where I won't get rifled by some California law official?

Start checking out ranges that have uspsa, IPSC, idpa, steel, etc.
Static line public ranges are boring.

It's far from you, buy Poway Weapons and Gear range has programmable target carriers.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

Again this may be a bit far but I regularly go to Angeles crest to shoot steel for handguns and rifles. For rifles they have steel out to 600 yards and they have all sorts of steel handgun targets. It's defiantly more entertaining than shooting at cardboard.

Go to Burro and get one of the private ranges.

Burro's doesn't allow shooting steel or steel ammo. Same for most if not all public ranges. If you want to shoot steel reactive targets go to Oak Tree where 210 and 5 meets or Angeles Shooting ranges but their pistol steel targets are farther out (starting at 35 yards to 110 yards). If you want to shoot steel ammo, join a club.

Desert Marksman Pistol and Rifle club is a private club 5 miles east on Angeles Crest Highway off of 14 north. It's about 30 miles from Pasadena if you take the 2 directly. It allows pretty much anything except tracers. You get to carry on the range as a member too. There are other private clubs around but I don't know their policies on steel ammo.

If you shoot a lot and want to shoot for cheaper, start reloading.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering the same question as OP to be able to shoot steel cased ammo.

I actually meant steel core/jacket ammo. Public ranges are concerned about ricochet and sparks. Steel case doesn't do much damage or cause forest fires. Most indoor ranges don't like steel cases.

And with the closure of BLM land to most shooting, the answer is.... no OP, there is NOWHERE near you to shoot the way you want to.

It is no longer legal on most/all BLM land in SoCal to fire bullets with steel jackets or cores even during the non fire season open periods. And before shooting at Oak Tree you may want to read up a little bit on something called Armatrix smart gun.

God help you if somebody dies in such a fire.

As far as making shooting interesting with lead bullets or jacketed lead bullets that pass the magnet test, you might try the silhouette club within the range at ASR. They have matches most weekends and you knock down metal animal targets. ASR itself also has swingers in various shapes on the pistol side. They also have metal targets going out to 600 yards. You can also shoot skeet there once you get your shotgun. There's plenty to do there besides punching cardboard.
So much for shooting cheap surplus AK ammo...

Research it. Owners of Oak Tree were first in line to begin selling the Armatix Smart Gun. Selling the gun itself isn't that big of a deal except as soon as it goes on sale, states like New Jersey have written laws that will abolish the sale of all "non-Smart" handguns. Think about it, if New Jersey does that, wonder if California would be hot on their heels to do the same? So basically, Oak Tree almost was successful in selling out all California gun owners.

There are dozens of posts here in Calguns about it, there were lots of shenanigans about Oak Tree trying to hide the fact that they were going to sell the Armatix. Look it up, read and learn.

You have to let it go Huckberry668. Move on....not healthy to hold a grudge.

Assuming that you don't want to support Oaktree for what they did (or may have done), you might as well leave California. For all the state has done to nearly abolish 2A rights, why continue to support the state with your tax dollars?
