    del Valle Gunsmithing "Threatens customer"

    8/13/2016
At or around 13:00hrs, my fiance' & I showed up to PPT a Glock 42 .380
to a Calguns member. My fiance' legally purchased this pistol years back at a local FFL gun shop in San Jose, Single shot exempted G42. The Calguns member who was purchasing the pistol today is a LEO "side note," not that this matters at all, she could sell it to "normal, non-LEO civilian" if she pleased. So, We walk into this shop...the buyer is already inside with his son. We produce the Glock 42, which is in its factory box. While at the counter, the older gentelman "name unknown" asks my fiance' "how she was able to purcahse this firearm." She & I explained that she purchased it from FFL dealer in SJ, in which a 4473 and DROS was compleated. The guy continues to talk, saying that the state of California is "CRACKING DOWN" on these, and that they might contact us later. I ask why? Older gentelman again says these guns are for Law Enforcement only, then again rudly says that we WILL be contacted by the DOJ. I said in a very polite voice "thats fine, they can speak to my Attorney Don Kilmer." The Older Gentelman then Threatens us, stating "YOU BETTER WATCH WHAT YOU SAY, THERE'S 5-POLICE OFFICERS STANDING BEHIND YOU."
He, than tells us all (including the LEO buyer) to get out of the store, he also gave the color-copy of my fiance's California DL to the buyer, and stated that "HE'D BETTER HOLD ONTO THIS."....he knew the buyer and was aware that he was a LEO. The buyer, of course gave the copy back to my fiance.

We need to crack down on these so called "Bad Apple" FFL dealers!
Refusing to conduct PPT, which, by CA STATE LAW, has to be done through an FFL Dealer. This guy was very rude and so was his son, who works there also. Threatening us by saying "We better watch what we say" then refusing to conduct ppt, then spreading FUD.

we felt belittled and intimadated by their threats and statements...made us feel like criminals.

Why didn't LEO just buy one since they are exempt?

Member for one month or less, wants us to light the torches and sharpen the pitchforks. This isn't our first rodeo.

Leo can buy this for $320 blue label. You want us to get our outrage on, answer the question. Otherwise something doesn't smell right...

And did the words 'single shot exempt' ever pass your lips during this conversation? There are other perfectly legal, roster exempt ways not involving even a hint of 'loophole' that these guns enter the state for non-LEO including new residents moving here with them and selling them, and gifts from direct family out of state. *If* I was ever asked how I got this, and I was not speaking to a federal agent or under oath, I would give the impression that it arrived to me one of these ways.

We have a rule around here - the words 'single shot exempt' or any form of them shall never pass our lips when being confronted by dimwits.

I just did a DROS there not long ago and it went smoothly. From what I can gather on their website they don't want to work on SSE type of pistols so I guess they are shy on transferring them as well. In today's world in CA I can understand their hesitancy, though they could have handled it a little more diplomatically. I dealt with Mary and the older gentleman and they were both pleasant enough.

The answer to "how she was able to purcahse this firearm" is "The old single-shot exemption, before they passed the current law", not where and what paperwork she did. Otherwise, it sounds like she could've bought it after SSE1 went away, which would be verboten.

"YOU BETTER WATCH WHAT YOU SAY, THERE'S 5-POLICE OFFICERS STANDING BEHIND YOU." Sounds like a warning not to incriminate yourself rather than a threat. Either way it seems strange that he would say that if he knew that your buyer was an LEO.

I'd say he was just refusing to facilitate what he thought was a questionable transaction. While it's unfortunate that he might have thought it was illegal and didn't want to do the research, he's not exactly the Lone Ranger on that score.

since when did buying a pistol thru a FFL become "VERBOTEN"

Do you frequent that FFL? If not, then why strike up a conversation about how it was acquired? If I go to an FFL who asks me that I'll say "legally" and if they have a problem I'll leave. Sounds like you catered to the buyer. I would have let them come to me personally. Also, if buyer was LEO and a CGN member, why didn't they back you up? Just sayin'...
