ok I got a few questions. I'm new to ammo. Just been learing all I can bout EBR's this year.

I know that FMJ is full metal jacket.
But what does that mean as far as the bullet?

And SP is soft point.


So is HP Hard point?

And what application would these different types of ammo be user for?

I believe that HP = Hollow Point.

HP is often used for hunting, as FMJ could go through the animal without causing enough damage (no expansion after impact) to bring it down quickly. The same can be said about using HP for home defense, etc.

Soft or hollow points are designed for expansion so they're more typically used for hunting. The military can't use expanding projectiles, meaning that they're generally restricted to FMJ. For shooting humans, rifles are pretty effective with or without expanding ammunition.

IIRC, Marin county has a ban on ordering ammo via mail. I may be wrong, but if you check up on it I'm pretty sure you are stuck with local sales only.

I may be wrong, but don't hunters only use non hollow point bullets? I thought hollow points were just for defense. If i were to hunt something like deer, i wouldn't want a hollow point ruining the skin/meat. i could be wrong though.
