    ? For Current Oregonians.....

Have 18 months before parole from PRK and have read a few threads on the current and future state of 2A and associated laws in Oregon. Many people call Oregon PRK north others state it is soundly pro 2A. I would like some input from the horses mouth, so to speak, on CCW and being able to shoot and hunt on one's own land as I have opportunities for several 80 plus acre parcels up there.

    Thanx in advance,

I don't think parolees are eligible for ccw?

Oregon is currently miles ahead of California with respect to 2A issues. You shouldn't have any problems getting your LTC permit. However, it is a Blue state and becoming more so as time goes by. How long they will be able to fight off the 2A subjugation is anyone's guess.

Moreover, Oregon's governor (Kate Brown) is a raging Liberal and doing her best to attack Orgon's gun rights...
Today, Governor Kate Brown (D) announced her gun control agenda in Salem by calling upon the Oregon Legislature to pass three gun control policies in the 2017 legislative session.

As for shooting and hunting on your land, you will need to check the local laws governing such activities. But generally speaking Oregon is pretty good in this regard.

If you have a choice of where to go, I'd advise to not choose Oregon. Too close to CA, in both geography and politics, just a matter of time until Oregonians suffer the same oppression we do here. Go to a good deep red state so at least you'll be surrounded by like-minded good people who can think for themselves.

Yeah, the problem is... they keep all those "deep red" states in the SOUTH!

Hmm, y'all have given cause to pause. Perhaps Idaho, Utah or follow the offspring to TN. Sad about your Gov. When those in power no longer represent their people, the system starts to fail. Like PRK, and now USA.

I will continue to weigh my options.
            Thanx all.

Regarding your land, ORS 166.171 should be helpful.

Though the state is decidedly blue, the majority of the counties in the state are not urban and decidedly red, as generally are the LEO's who enforce the laws in them. Much depends on where you live as far as tone regarding guns.

See ORS 166.291 for info on a concealed handgun license.

In my county, Douglas, one can provide proof of residency by one of a number of methods, including proof of ownership or renting of a domicile or real estate.

I got introduced to our local sheriff in an unexpected and sad way when the UCC shooting occurred the day I was driving through Roseburg on my way to California and saw him plastered all over the news. Good guy, hope he gets reelected this fall. His views on gun control and the 2A are pretty well known. Sample.

Check out your local sheriff and deputies where your properties are located. They're your first contact and first responders. So far I have nothing but positives to report about Oregon. Perfect? Nah, nothing is. Everyone has their fit. It OR isn't yours, it isn't. Only way to know is to go.

Yeah, for the most part. I'm planning for Salt Lake City in the hopefully near future, UT is among the best states for all laws, including gun laws, and proper castle doctrine and stand your ground. They get snow there and I'll be less than an hour away from the best skiing / snowboarding in the country at Park City and Deer Valley. It's not in the south, great outdoor activities, super friendly people, beats this **** stain state in every aspect. Oh yeah, except no surfing...

Doing a circuit of OR UT AND Idaho next summer. Already scouted TN. Love it there but jobs are still an issue for 10 years. UT has friends there and Montana has family. Guess I need to gas the RV. Thanks folks.

If I could have got my employees to agree, Salt Lake City would have been my first choice, for lots of reasons. But now we're in Reno, which is still a huge improvement over Orange County. It's just that with over 70% of Nevada's population in Clark County, the political climate here is becoming inexorably less gun-friendly. That won't happen in Utah for a long time.

Family is enormous. It is no small task in this day and age, finding people/friends that you can truly rely on. And particularly when looking for a new place to live where you don't know anyone...having some type of support system is huge.

CCW: Oregon has shall-issue CHL (concealed handgun license) and it is easy to get even in Multnomah County where Portland is. You take a course - you can even take it online http://oregonchl.org/ - then go to the local sheriff's office, fill out the forms, have your picture taken, fingerprints, background check, pay the fee, and the license is issued to you right there. My fee was $65 and the license is good for 4 years. You are not limited to specific firearms on your CHL, you can carry whatever you want. The course I took was also good for Utah and Arizona so I applied by mail and got permits for those states too. With my 3 permits I can carry in all of the green and blue states below:

Concealed carry (with a CHL) in Oregon is legal even at schools and colleges, in the state capitol building, and in non-secure areas of airports.

Oregon does not require a permit for open carry, including in vehicles. A few cities restrict open carry without a CHL but the shall-issue CHL overrides those city open carry restrictions.

Oregon cities can restrict discharge of firearms on your own property if you live within a city's limits, but counties are specifically preempted from restricting firearms discharges on your own property, as long as it doesn't endanger your neighbors.

                          (2) Ordinances adopted under subsection (1) of this section may not apply to or affect:

                          (a) A person discharging a firearm in the lawful defense of person or property.

                          (b) A person discharging a firearm in the course of lawful hunting.

                          (c) A landowner and guests of the landowner discharging a firearm, when the discharge will not endanger adjacent persons or property.
In other words, as long as you don't live within the city limits of a city that restricts it, you can shoot on your own property. I don't live within a city's limits so I can shoot on my own property as long as I do it safely.

Yes, some Calguns wiseguys who may have never even set foot in Oregon keep saying Oregon is "just like" California, or hope that it will soon be like California just so they can say "I told you so."

After reading what I posted above, does Oregon sound like California North to you?
                          Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Oregon Democrat governor just said she would do anything, even executive order use, to ban gun while she's in office.

Media coverage in July of Kate Brown's gun safety program:

I would expect, though this year was kind of weird due to the mid-term special election, the trend of Democrats in the governor's office to continue as it has from the 1980's. However, Oregon is a far-flung state and what goes on in Portland and Salem doesn't necessarily translate to reality in the various counties and cities.

If wanting a modicum of the smell and taste of freedom, I'd avoid the backbone of the state, basically everything along I5, and get out into the boonies. I'm at the coast but either direction generally works. Even though my county extends to the backbone, with Roseburg as the county seat, it extends from ocean to mountains with a lot of rural philosophies about all matters political, as reflected in Sheriff Hanlin's philosophy regarding 2A, markedly in conflict with the politics coming out of the governor's office of late.

                              Choose wisely.
