    ChuckBooty's CCW application log

So I began my process of applying for a CCW in Riverside County last week. I purchased a Taurus .357 (model 617) for use in my CCW application process.

After some heavy research, I contaced the, somewhat infamous, Billy Jack (for those unfamiliar, he's a California CCW advocate) by way of his website. I sent him my "good cause" and he emailed me with his phone number. After speaking with him, I felt pretty confident that we can get this done.

The first step was to request, in writing, a copy of Riverside County's CCW policy and CCW application. He told me not to request it over the phone, as it is policy to heavily discourage anyone from applying.

The request was sent a couple of days ago, and I'm waiting to hear back (by law they have ten days to respond to the request).

I'll be logging my whole adventure here. Wish me luck!

It can be somewhat discouraging looking at the number of CCW permits in California. But the thing is that most people don't even apply. I say just go for it...all they can say is, "No". Right? I'll definitely keep everyone posted. Thanks for your intrest!

I think that's because the thought is that if you apply in a non-CCW friendly county and get denied that your chances are basically ruined for life because if you move or there is a new sheriff and you reapply they will see that you had been denied once and use that against you. I know that in Placer county the policy is to turn down anyone who shows up in the database as being previously denied.

Basically people aren't willing to take the risk, and are hoping a trail blazer will roll into town and take it for them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that some departments inform your employer that you've applied for or have been issued a CCW. This may be another reason that people do not apply.

wow what a bunch of crap!

What business of your employer is it that you are applying for a CCW?
And under what law can the sheriff inform them?

What if you are unemployed, does that deny you your rights?

Well...say you work for a gas station and intend to carry behind the counter. They will require a letter from your employer acknowledging that you intend to carry. And I'm not sure if your chances are any less if you've been denied before...unless it was for a good reason.

And I'm in the military...I'm pretty sure it'd be OK with my employer if I were armed. lol!

Those of you who think you may have some good cause should apply. WE can be the trailblazers that you speak of. Like I said...all they can say is No.

I was told by an individual at Rside Co Sheriff that they have a no issue policy to Military personel.

Hope it works out for you.

Im sure if youve got big $$$ and an ironclad good cause, Billy Jack will help you out....

but at that point, who needs help?

That's why Billy Jack told me to request it in writing. If you call, the current policy is to do or say whatever it takes to dissuade somebody from requesting the app and policy. If you request in writing, they can't talk you out of it and are required to grant you an interview.

I think that this is a bunch of crap...

Ive got the policy and application sitting on my desk at home. Theyre not gonna put the Military stipulation into thier policy because its illegal, however, they can use it as a factor "off the books".

Im all for you trying, and I hope you get it. If you do, Id like to know about your good cause statement, since mine apparently isnt good enough.

**ETA**( and I dont make enough $$$ to rally someone to support my cause )

                              Good Luck!!!
I got mine issued with no problem in 4 1/2 weeks in Kern County.
                              I was kinda impressed.
                              Good Luck again.
