Ammo is classified by DOT as an "ORM-D" commodity...UPS will ship and you can google and print an ORM-D label for the box.
You can check up to 4 kilos (11 lbs.) of ammo in baggage per the IATA agreement...that might be easiest if you're under that limit.True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

There are no additional "hazmat fees". Shipping ammunition is a viable option for those that cannot take it with them.
'Will I Pay An Additional Fee For Shipping Cartridges, Small Arms?
When shipping ORM-Ds or Limited Quantities of hazardous materials by UPS Ground within the 48 contiguous states, UPS Ground Intra-Oahu or Intra-Alaska, only the standard shipping charges apply. There are no "accessorial" or additional charges.'Last edited by 003; 08-10-2016, 10:50 AM.Comment

This is the correct answer. There are no additional "hazmat fees". Shipping ammunition is a viable option for those that cannot take it with them.

When shipping ORM-Ds or Limited Quantities of hazardous materials by UPS Ground within the 48 contiguous states, UPS Ground Intra-Oahu or Intra-Alaska, only the standard shipping charges apply. There are no "accessorial" or additional charges.'
You can ship UPS or FedEx, but not USPS.
Normal rates apply, you are supposed to declare it to the shipper and put an ORM-D sticker on the box.
Make sure you put the new sticker (a white diamond with two black points, no lettering) on the box and not the old one (says "ORM-D" with "cartridges, small arms" underneath it).
You can use the old label, but I think it is better to not have the exact contents advertised on the box.
Do a Google image search for ORM-D label and print one out, tape it to the box. That's what I do.Comment

^^^ Wrong-- as pointed out in other posts. You can NOT MAIL(USPS) ammo. You can SHIP ammo UPS/Fed-ex.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
