    Double Barrel Shotgun

Has anyone here ever fired a double barell shotgun. 10ga or 12ga. I recently bought a 12ga interstate double barrel shotgun from big5.

I've heard stories. I'm not recoil shy, but I hear horror stories.

    hahaha. Great story!
I have shot a 12g Double Barrel Shottie. It had a 20'' bbl length. I was shooting 2.75'' turkey loads. Gun was a SPM-12
It felt like more recoil then my 870..... but did not bruise after 20 or so rounds. Not sure if it really was more recoil, or because it was only the 2nd time I had shot a shotgun. Anyway, you should be fine...

      um,
instead of net~voodo, why not start with some 7 1/2 bird shot and work your way up to a heavier load you're comfy with

Double barreled shotguns shoot no differently than single barrel shotguns. Recoil depends on the gun weight, the type (power) of the load, the geometry of the stock and your shooting technique.

Exactly - a double-barrel is just like a pump-action shotgun for recoil, except that with two barrels, there's more weight up front to absorb recoil.

I had a 16-Gauge drilling (three-barrel) gun for a while. Eventually sold it because the ammo was hard to come by. Recoil wasn't a problem.

I would suspect that most of the "horror stories" about double-barrel shottys are along the lines of the similar tales heard about how the 10mm is "uncontrollable".

Take note that the tale you're linking to involved a 10ga shotgun, which is a "wee bit" larger in bore size than the 12ga you've bought. It was also chambered for 3-1/2" Magnum loads.

Putting that all together, obviously recoil would be a "wee bit" increased.

The 12ga you've got should present no issues as far as recoil goes. You'll probably enjoy shooting it, as the SxS shottys are quite fun IMO. But that's just me.

If recoil is a potential concern (say if you're getting a gf to try it out) look into the loads built specific for the SASS shooters (cowboy action shooting). Most everything they run is downloaded and recoil is non-existent, particularly in a SxS 12ga.

If you're afraid of the double then I guess you wouldn't want to try this.

having pulled both triggers on a 12 guage double with #4 turkey loads all I can say is " I dare you to do it"
