22lr for my son

I have 4 .22s. My favorite is my dads old Remington (maybe Winchester) youth model single shot bolt action. Shoots .22lr, HV, CBs, shorter, whatever.
Loading each round makes each shot more significant. Great gun. I see kids blast away with semi-autos.

I also have a Marlin Tube fed that is bolt action. Quicker firing but more time to spend on mechanics.

I've got a 10/22. It's OK. But probably my least favorite has seems most finicky on ammo. Really needs clean, HV ammo to run consistent.

I started my sons on Marlin youth 22 bolt actions. As they grew a bit, moved to Winchester 9422's and finally Ruger 10/22.

Can anyone recommend a left handed semi 10/22? I didn't see one on Ruger's site.

Nope they don't make lefty 10/22. I'm a lefty and have no problem shooting the rifle lefty.

My 8 year old has a savage rascal. Small. Light. Single shot for safety.

My older boy ,12 has a Henry lever action youth model. He loves it. (So do I)

They both love the Heritage 22 revolver

They both love my old Rossi pump 22. And my Goldenboy.

You can't go wrong with a Ruger 10/22. But a lever action Henry or similar would just be freaking cool. And particularly if you didn't want to go semi auto on the first gun.

And sorry, I have no idea on prices for either of these. Just telling you what I would be looking at.

Both nice guns. But just to piss people off I'd buy him a AR in 22 cal

10/22 is a fun gun. I wouldn't recommend it for a kid starting out though. They are prone to stove piping without some additional work. It sounds like a lot of people sink additional money and mods into these guns before they are happy with them.

I would recommend a bolt action to a beginner.

A 10/22 would be my recommendation but a lever action 22 would be pretty darn cool too.

Savage Rascal is only about 2.5 pounds, bolt action, great trigger and very accurate. Should be able to get it for $150-175. If he is still pretty small, 70-80 pounds or so, that might be a good option for a couple of years.
