Frangable Ammo for Home Defense?

I plan to get a box or two of these for home defense.. I heard it is less likely to penetrate walls and doors and hurt innocents, like family members. what do you think?

Yes, when they hit something solid, they'll break into smaller pieces, however, you should get premium stuff.

This type of ammo is known to be very inaccurate and may jam pistols if you get cheap stuff. I prefer Glazer Safety Slugs, but they're kinda pricey - $14-$19 for 6 rounds.

Frangible ammo is okay for revolvers, but I wouldn’t trust a semi with them until I’d tried it with 200 rounds of that particular ammo (and I wouldn’t be willing to burn up 200 rounds of expensive frangible ammo!). Also note that frangible ammo varies in ability to penetrate drywall. When I looked into it a few years back, only Magsafe claimed their ammo would break up in drywall, and only certain rounds. If I recall correctly Glasers will actually penetrate hard objects fairly well if they strike square.

Any round with enough oomph to be decent for self defense will penetrate through the cheap materials used to build houses nowadays. Frangible ammo may help prevent this. But ask yourself if it's worth it knowing that you are carrying ammo that does not meet the 12" minimum penetration requirement? No frangible ammo for me.

Check stats on which ammo counts for the highest percentage of 1 or 2 shot stops. I'd be surprised if frangible ammo is on the list. You can also try buckshot & not need to worry about stats on pistol ammo .
