    When you remove the decocker, there is a backplate that goes on behind it. Try rotating that 45 degrees clockwise. You may need to drop it down to rotate it. You'll feel it slip into place. When the backplate is installed correctly, you can just barely see the tip of it in the bottom right corner, and the deckocker will rest on it and come all the way up.

          I have two 229s. I yanked the grips of both of them.

          Given that.............

          Your decocker plate that the spring resides on isn't going UP towards the slide enough. Kind of like the decocker doesn't have enough spring tension or the decoker is hung up from traveling upward to it's normal placement. The plate behind the decocker plate looks like it is the wrong spot as well.

          That is my terrible attempt at comparative analysis.
