    FN249. Who Has Shot One?

I'm thinking about a FN M249S. Not sure why I want one but it is really cool. Do you think it's worth buying?

Bigger, more accurate, more reliable, and easier to break down with fewer and easier parts to clean.

If I was a collector and had the funds absolutely. I have good memories shooting it in service.

I think it is worth it but not if you live in CA. I believe it will become a collector's classic in years to come.

I carried one for a few years and they can be fun to shoot in bursts but civilian ownership with semi alot wouldn't be so much fun it's bulky heavy and no auto

For the price you could get a shrike and a 1919. Or spend a little more and get a M2HB.

If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

No interest unless it were full auto. In semi-auto, you essentially have a big, expensive, heavy AR15 equivalent on a tripod, that looks like something else for a gee-whiz factor.

10-rounds or less for the belt-feed? No thanks.

I prefer the 240. A calgunner just bought one from me a few weeks ago. I'm just waiting for Ohio Ordnance to finish building it. He also ordered a 1918BAR. I have that here now.

The 249 is cheaper to feed and you can use AR magazines in it. When you get across the wire and escape to a free state you can link up low cost 5.56 and blast to your heart's content.

I would get one of I had the funds for the cool factor.

That said, an RPK would be easier on my budget for blasting rounds from heavy barrel, a bi-pod equipped auto-loader.

That magazine option was an unnecessary feature demanded by the US Army and is the reason why the 249 is generally considered to be inferior to a regular Minimi. Sir. (Never noticed the oak leaf until now)
