Driving target stands into desert ground

Yup.

Rebar goes into the ground and the PVC remains above and acts as the target frames' holders.

Just figure out what size the vertical "posts" on the frame will be (2x2 or 2x4) and you can quickly determine what diameter PVC is needed.

This year was a bust, very few signs around here. I'm looking for some Shrillary/Kamala-toe signs next November. I used some steel target stands and destroyed all of them. .308's are deadly to them.

I feel pretty good destroying a Democrat. It's much cheaper too.

Go to the candidate's campaign office you don't like and ask for a couple yard signs. Get your target stands then and there and let the candidate you can't stand pay for some of your firearms fun.

When we use to shoot around North Edwards, all of our stuff was A-frame stands.

Too bad we can't replace that poor guy with some of our local Social Justice Warriors. I might even try trick shots.

I anchor my stands with tent stakes...the ones that look like large nails. Easy to remove also.

This is similar to what mnichols posted... I've heard good things, seems a bit pricey but if you can't hammer into the dirt might be a good option to check out http://www.laststands.com

Another idea what we use is a collapsible sawhorse (folding legs attach to a 2x4) which we set our metal knock downs on top and underneath hang a gong

It's really going to depend on location. Choose a place with a good backstop that isn't in rocky areas. Find places in foothills where there is evidence of rain runoff with washes in the area. This usually works out well for me because the ground tends to be either sandy or firm ground.

I hang my steel on A frames with angle iron for uprights. My angle iron is 48" tall and I usually drive them into the ground 10~16". I have 3" "footpegs" rivited to the inside of the angle iron that lets me drive them into the ground with my boot by just stepping on it. If the ground is sandy I drive the angle iron in a few inches past the footpeg with a hammer.

One of my A-frames at 200yds. That's an 18" square, 3/8" thick AR500 plate hanging on it. It isn't bowed because of the weight of the plate, I pegged the beam with a .308 round.

You can see part of one of my other frames bottom right in the pic (I think at 100yds).

I use blocks of 6"x6"x8" solid steel for the base, they have short sections of pipe welded to them and the gong frame slides in. No digging required they sit on the ground and are heavy enough not to fall over. Except when I hit the gong with the 30-30, that usually topples the whole set up. Helps to bring a wheelbarrow to transport the blocks and gongs in the desert because they are heavy.

I'm in North County, Trump country. I would have to drive all the way into San Diego to find a DNC office. Still might be worth it though.

OP to answer your question, a T-post driver works perfectly for driving t-posts into desert dirt.

I tried a wooden saw horse but it got knocked over.

I bought one of those collapsible frames from ar500 targets and it is great.
