I'm not a big AK person. Do I like how they look? Sure. however I have limited funds before the new year hits, and possible Hilary presidency. I have been debating finishing my Ars,or grabbing an ak. Again, I am not big on AKs so its kind of difficult in buying one, let alone a shotgun. Would buying a vepr 12 be worth it? I'm sure the primary purpose would be hd, but I already have a maverick 88 and a handgun for that. Or should I just build my Ar rifles?

If you want an AK then get a regular one. The recoil on a Vepr 12 can be pretty hefty limiting the amount that you would shoot it and it takes work to get it to be reliable with low power bird shot. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything but it shouldn't be your first AK. Get an AK47 and the buy a shotgun unaffected by the ban when you have funds down the road. (like a Benelli M4 or Rem 870.)Comment

I'd jump on it, they're great shotguns!
I've used my Vepr 12 many times over the past 4 years. The recoil is very light compared to my 590a1 pump. It's worked extremely reliably with everything I've put into it, I've mostly shot Federal 100 bulk packs through and not a single jam. I've never had to modify my Vepr 12 to work out of the box.Bounce a ball in Football that's a fumble. Baseball, no bouncing at all. Bounce a ball in Hockey, well that's a mandatory drug test right there...Comment

Haven't modified mine either, but I mostly shoot buck. I like the shoulder pain!I'd jump on it, they're great shotguns!

I still get FTEs now and again with bird shot, but not sure if it's the Federal or the Winchester since I should both sometimes. I hear the V12s can be hit or miss with how well they do using bird shot.Comment

Is the VEPR a bird shot gun?
I don't think so.
It runs the inexpensive SandB OO buck, just fine. Slugs and birds shot just fine.
It's not a light firearm.
I put a shock absorbing tube, and Mako GL Shock on mine. For fast on placement shooting.
Took some milling to mate AR tube to back end. Milled the CA mag release inhibitor, to make it finger friendly.
Huge compensator on front.sigpicComment
