How much are FFLs charging for PPT and dealer transfers around you?

Around me, shops are charging $40-50 for PPT and $100 for dealer transfers.

Regarding PPT, I've seen several charging at least $40, but according to the Office of the Attorney General website, the max they should be charging is $35.

    From here: https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/pubfaqs

Firearms dealers are required to process private party transfers upon request but may charge a fee not to exceed $10 per firearm for conducting the transfer. For example:
    • For a private party transfer involving one or more handguns, the total allowable fees, including the DROS, safety, and dealer transfer fees, are not to exceed $35.00 for the first handgun and $31.00 for each additional handgun involved in the same transaction.
    • For private party transfers involving one or more long guns, or a private party transfer involving one handgun, the total allowable fees, including the DROS, safety, and dealer transfer fees, are not to exceed $35.00. The dealer may charge an additional dealer-service fee of up to $10.00 for each additional firearm.
    Am I reading that right?

PPT is $10 by law, DROS is $25 by law.

    Transfers are whatever they want.

You may be charged for a lock if one is not included with the firearm, and that tends to bring the total over $40.

Here in the Bay Area, Private Party is $35. But FFL transfer ranges from $75 up to $125. Unfortunately all the FFL that is closest to me charges $125.

Raf at Get a Gun in Bakersfield says that it is $50 OTD including DROS for a dealer transfer. The going rate everywhere else seems to be $100 + tax on the purchased price of the firearm + DROS.

Here in the east bay, I've been quoted $40 to $75 for transfers, additional items are $20 to $35 each.

I'm actually going to pay $75 because the FFL is closer than the cheaper ones and my time + gas will make the cheaper price a wash.

$10-20 for dealer. No such thing as a PPT fee here. Just meet the buyer/seller at a place of your choosing and trade cash for gun.

Do note the nice member is posting from Utah, where gun laws are not entirely insane.

In CA, that's a misdemeanor for both buyer and seller - CA FFL is required for substantially all transfers.

Which LGS are you referring to FFL for $75 including DROS? The prices I mention are FFL transfer fees only not including DROS.

Haven't done a transfer with Rafael in years, glad to know he still only charges $25 plus $25 DROS
