    Two completely different platforms, not a fair likeness. A better comparison would be the BAR and the FG 42.

        The point is that these weapons were TO&E for their particular armies. The Germans embedded a crew served weapon at the squad level in order to support the maneuver element, whereas the Americans went with a heavy automatic rifle to support the squad with the heavier crew served weapons linked up at the platoon and company levels to support the maneuver element.

        We are talking DOCTRINE here which are based off the Storm Trooper tactics of WW1.

                Obviously not too well. LOL.

                Also, you have to remember that the Germans had plenty of time to 'dig in' and fortify their positions, so having the squad support the entrenched Machine Gun kind of made sense I guess.

                As opposed to the Allies, who were on the offensive...Having the Machine Gun support the squad seems to kind of make sense?
