The Shot Show and Dealer FUD

Over the last 3 days at the Shot Show I ran across a number of dealers convinced that a new gun ban is coming as soon as Obama is inaugerated.

This wasn't coming so much from the big boys such as Larue or LWRC..etc..etc, but from the dealers that were there to buy product to take back to their shops.

A couple I spoke to were somewhat willing to listing to an opposing point of view, but the majority would shake their head at the mere mention of Heller, political capital or current pressing issues such as the wars we currently find ourself in.

My impression was that they truely believed what they were saying and it wasn't an attempt to increase sales. They either had little understanding of how the legal side is shaped or no faith in Congress. I can understand both sentiments, but it was interesting to watch the fear, uncertainty and doubt pushing sales at a record pace.

Could it be that, before it happened, they never thought that the first one could occur and when it did they were amazed at how easily it did? Fool me once, you know.

I think that is a whole lot of it and it is actually somewhat good if you think about it. All I do worry about though is that it is accompanied by a defeatist attitude if and when we need everyone to mobilize to stop the lesser bad stuff that may come.

The defeatist attitude is precisely what worries me. If they don't see the value or power of strong court decisions, they are much less likely to get involved politically when the situation calls for it.

Unfortunately, I believe this attitude is promulgated in many gun stores around the country. You know, guys talking it up at their local shop...customers over hearing bits and pieces...

The largest threat to gun owners quite often are themselves.

FreedomIsNotFree, did you get a chance to talk to Larue and tell him that OLLs are CA legal, hand out some stuff to read in person?

I wanted to go, but couldn't make the time.

I didn't see Mark there on the couple occassions I went by. I did inquire about the timeframe on upper builds and lowers, but didn't press on CA sales. His guys were busy and I dont believe addressing the point with them would have been fruitful.

Larue needs to see someone he trusts selling lowers here. Who knows, the guy is so busy maybe he does know and just doesn't think the attention is worth it considering he has plenty of business. Its unfortunate if its the latter.

I had some successes in getting some new guys to ship in, but that info is for me to keep close to my vest. I liked the guy at Tactical Inovations that decided he was going to lecture me about moving out of the state or some such nonsense. I cut him off and walked away. He seemed shocked like I should grovel and I said over my shoulder "Or you could choose to make money with me."

At the end of the row was YHM and being from MA they said they understood and agreed to send me 100 lowers, so I bought some. They might be available in August.

Did you hear about the class they had on CA sales? Something about Selling to CA in a Nutshell..somethig like that? I headed over there to see how many people were interested and was also curious what info would be included...nobody was there. Apparently there aren't too many people looking to expand into the CA market. Oh well, more money for those that choose to educate themselves I suppose.

After BHO gets done making appointments to the SCOTUS they'll shred Heller and it'll only be a fond memory. Get real!

I'm still trying to be positive, but it's hard when you look at all of the cabinet members and what they've done in the past. Heller wasn't the "slam dunk" it was supposed to be. It was great, but we're only one accident or heart attack away from it being reversed.

Tell me kid, do you have any understanding of the political make up of the current court, who is likely to leave and how cases eventually reach the court?

No he doesn't, but don't educate him. These people are driving my record sales!

Yes, they are going to ban everything so buy it before he bans it!

Tell em this. If these dealers were so convinced that there will be a new ban right after the inaugaration, why were they at the Shotshow?

The general consensus out-of-state seems to be that Californians are all scum, and don't deserve to possess firearms of any type.

Makes me appreciate the good out-of-state FFL's all the more.

Spending time in "free" states and having to listen to some of the FUD and outright BS is educational and depressing.

I've planned on retiring to a "free" state where I've owned property since the late seventies, and nothing is funnier than hearing about the "Commie Californians" moving in (directed at me) from people who haven't been there as long as I have. All they need to see is the Ca. plates on the truck and they get their panties in a bunch.

It was all on how to do the CFLC approvals. It ain't rocket science, and if you've been dealing with Ca, you're already doing it. New out-of-state dealers can be up and running with the guidance of a Ca Dealer in 10 min. It doesn't take an hour at SHOT to teach it. No surprise it was a empty class.
