I used 77 gr SMKs personally, my own version of the MK 262

This appears to be a superb SD round.....

The only problem for me is my AR is 1x9 twist...Will it shoot the 77 grain TMK reliably for SD?

It is a very good cartridge. But personally I find the availability and cost to be prohibitive.

Get a case of milsurp m193 or wolf gold and quit worrying about it.

I'd reach for the ar15 before a shotgun, even with 10rd mags.

I wouldn't be concerned at home defense distances. Any instability wouldn't become evident until about 25 yards.

It won't have any issues at HD ranges and MOBD (Minute Of Bad Guy)

This, sold my persuader because I switched to an AR. I have a few of those mags with the bullet tool on them, and even at 10 rounds I'm still faster than reloading a 7+1 shotgun.

My handful of "OhSh*t" magazines are stagger loaded with Mk318 barrier-blind rounds and Gold Dot bonded.

I HATE trying to load a new gun/caliber for HD because I read, and read, and read and research til my brain hurts. I did all my research for handguns, and my carry guns as well as my shotty's...but now with the AR and needing/wanting HD ammo, im back to reading for weeks again and driving myself nuts....I guess what im going to do is buy some Black Hills 69 grain OTM, (MK262 Mod 1) 1 box and fill my mags. Behind the Black hills, xm193 will fill the remaining capacity and mags.

                          You're over thinking it.

Bad guys won't know the difference under 25 yards.

This. If it is only an inside the house load, use whatever. I'd probably go with a 50-55gr Vmax, but I doubt it would matter.

Lol, you're believing marketing hype for expensive ammo.

Any projectile capable of penetrating to the vitals of a human will easily pass through interior and even most exterior walls of homes. A xm193 bullet penetrates roughly 12-14" of gel, which is the sweet spot for a defensive cartridge, your $1.25 TAP bullets will penetrate the same

Any brand of XM193 is about the same i guess? ...Crazy question, but humor me cause I dont know much about this type of ammo, but is there a diff. between the basic 223 fmj or xm193?
