How high are you guys stacking your 230g ammo cases? Right now I'm stacking in rows of 5 high. That's 200lbs sitting atop the bottom cases..

Ammo Can Weights and Quantities

To start, different weights of ammo cans and common ammo. For reference, I've gathered information from different sites and from personal knowledge weighing some ammo cans myself. Below is a list of how much various types of ammunition weighs along with the average amount of ammo can fit in both .50 cal and .30 ammo cans. These are rough estimates and of course varies with the bullet weight of each round. For most calibers, the difference in weight between different bullet weights in less than a pound or two per 1000 rounds.

Ammo cans have become outrageously expensive. WTF has happened to the cost of this boxes over the past few years?!?!

I did pick up an awesome box yesterday which has latches on both sides, and is marked as 800 rounds of linked 223. Large box and will be perfect for the storage of a lot of 22LR rounds. I think it might be this on that was painted over, but I have not really investigated it yet:

I've got mine stacked 2 high and 2 deep and about 8 or 10 across on a lower shelf of my workbench. I am afraid to stack it any higher or it might rip the brace off the 4x4 post.

Lol 200 rnds is "stacking" to you. The OP is talking thousands of rounds of .45.

when you buy by the case, its usually 500rds per case or 1000rd case.

if the individual boxes have the plastic dividers. then I would not worry.
if they have the cardboard divider, I would not go higher. build a shelf.

Beyond my war era rounds I don't think I've ever owned ammo boxes with cardboard dividers. I'll stay stacked at 5 high (1K case counts). I have plenty of room for now. Maybe go 7 high with 9mm currently @ 4 high.

At this point I am worried my foundation will crack from the weight of the Ammo storage. We are not talking about 50 round boxes, but instead mil surplus metal ammo cases filled to the top with all sorts of goodness stacked high and deep.

I have 6 ammo cans high sitting on a pallet. When the pallet gives me issues I'll worry about the foundation. I would have no concerns about stacking those same 6 cans directly on the floor.

Maybe I should, but I don't.

As for stacking boxes, I have 4 bulk pack 1k round cases of 223 stacked on each other.
