Upside to ammo background check law

Maybe gun stores will now have a stable revenue of money to make off ammo sales/online ammo transfers, because now everybody is forced to buy from them. Could cause more small gun shops sprouting up everywhere to meet demand, and could increase the availability of guns, and thus cause more beginners to get into guns.

Or tell me that I'm wrong....

Smart money says open an ammo only store.

Could be a potential business opportunity. Maybe I could do it.

I am all about looking at the positive, but in this case there is ZERO upside.

Would an ammo store be willing to do ammo transfers if they could sell you their stuff for a higher price?

They'll take advantage of the situation and continue rape us on ammo prices. Probably even more so now since their now the only game in town.

No upside, although the idea of flippers getting stuck sitting on a big pile of useless .22LR makes me grin just a little...

Actually I was thinking of opening an Ammo and Consignment Sales Store. That would also except online shipments.

You're wrong. You won't have to sell guns to sell ammo. Any retail business with a fixed location could get a license to sell ammo or handle transfer of online ammo sales: sporting goods stores, farm & feed stores, large retailers like Walmart, dedicated ammo stores, etc. More ammo stores might spring up (I doubt it because there probably isn't enough sales volume to keep all of them profitable) but not more gun stores. The shrinking California handgun roster and the tightening of the "assault weapon" ban are going to hurt local gun stores more than the ammo law is going to help them, if it helps them at all.
                      Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

                          You're wrong.

They can make no more than $10 for the transfer.
Receive, warehouse for no more than 30 days, background check, hand over all for $10?

Remember when AB962 was briefly in effect before being struck down?
Walk into Turner's or Bass Pro. Look at the shelves. ALL that was stocked was rifle/shotgun ammo. Everything else was behind the counter, or in the stock room.
Take a number, ask the salesdrone for what you want. Oh... don't have any. Ok, what do you have? Fiocci? Nope. Wolfe? Nope.
A simple "scan the shelves and make a decision" procedure was a 10 minute conversation that ended in frustration.

But this time it is ALL ammo, and most likely boolits.
Do you expect Turner's and BassPro to quadruple their staff levels? Do you expect them to build out more counter area?

                          Of course they won't.

Think the staff is going to be happy lugging boxes of ammo when they'd rather be trying to sell a $1000+ gun?

Kiss Walmart goodbye too. They stopped selling rifles in California because their employees were incapable of handling the paperwork. This will be the same thing.

I highly doubt that I will be buying ANY ammo in California after January 1.

The law REQUIRES them to do ammo transfers.
