    [PURCHASING FIRST GUN] AR-15

I've never purchased a gun before, but now that ridiculous laws have been passed, I feel like it's a good idea to have one and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Where is a good place to buy a California Legal AR-15 at a reasonable price?
I'd also want to get one that doesn't shoot .22 LR rounds, there seems to be a lot of those available.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm just not sure what gun manufacturers to stay away from and which ones produce good quality products.

Depends on your location. Any local shop should be able to get you one- just depends on your budget.

I'm in Santa Clara County, what's the price range on them?

$650 to $900 should get you a basic smith and wesson m&p sport II or Colt AR. Prices may have gone up a tad in CA though.

What's going to be the difference between one which costs $650 and one that costs $900?

Make sure you get one of those fully automatic ones the libs keep talking about, just use the gun show loophole.

Lmao, it's amazing how people blindly follow the media. My parents were complaining about the gun show loophole, and I they were so confused when I said, "What loophole? There is none."

Not that much for the typical user. Usually the brand name is what jacks the price up in that price range.

For S&W M&P 15, $650-800 will get you a "standard" AR-15 with fixed front sights and the usual hand guards. $900-1000 will get you the same AR-15 lower, but the upper will have free floating picatinny rails (and flip-up backup sights); M&P 15 sport vs M&P 15T. I think the sport version is also 1:9 twist rate versus 1:8 twist for T one (unless they changed recently).

Not sure about Colt. All depends on manufacturer.

So is my best bet to go to Big 5 or some gun store and just ask to see the available AR 15's?

you got a lot of great local alternatives to big 5 where you live that we in the north bay don't, enjoy them. do a google search for gun shop and you'll see.
