    RAW's and BLM land

Does anyone know or have first hand experience. BLM says you can but also says IAW other state and local laws, jargon, rubbish, ??

If we go the RAW route do we lose the "priveledge" to use BLM land?
I also understand there are transportation clauses different from "regular" firearms. If anybody has experience I'd like to hear.

    Thanks.

Its a bit too early to tell with the upcoming registration but my RAW registered in 1999 has been GTG. No issues what so ever.

Speaking from a pre-2000 perspective, it must be unloaded in a locked case. I error on the side of caution and choose to use a hard side case with 2 padlocks. I carry my paperwork but have never been asked to present it.

Thank you for the information. If we retain the capability to use on BLM land may be smarter in the long run to register instead of trying to keep up with new compliance laws. When registered as a raw, do other states consider it a raw or is it only CA?

        Cheers!
Depends on the state. Free ones like AZ, TX, etc. dont care but you will run into problems in NY.

          Thats the plan!

Once it's a RAW then they restrict where you can use it down to next to no place. Think registered RAW shooting ranges and the cost of licencing for an approved range costs so much it's not feasible. One or two in California?!

No need to ban the firearm if the restrictions are in place. People won't even want it. Know one will buy or want a gun they cant shoot.

          Brilliant idea and it's happening.

Ive shot mine at multiple ranges and plenty of BLM areas. As long as rifles were allowed to be used I have been turned away ZERO times. Time will tell if things change but dont state as fact that previous RAWs can only be used in designated areas. As of today that is simply not true.

Edit = the above is true in San Diego. I cant comment on other areas of the state.

Well, that's a comfortable thought because everyone knows laws are written in stone and never changed

Lets put away our crystal balls for a moment and focus on what you previously said:

Not really true. AW laws do require approval from property owners to use on their land, however, private ranges should not be a concern, and BLM and NF are Federal Lands, and it is posted that it is ok to use AW's on these public lands.
The only thing that is worse than an idiot, is someone who argues with one.

Thanks for all the info. Whether you register them or go featureless the end result, I believe, is the same, bye bye guns. I plan on leVing CA in 2 years. If I register a couple and get the rest out of state by 31 dec I don't have to constantly worry about interpretation of featureless, being legal by which ever Leo I come across for whatever reason. Once I move, the RAW doesn't matter. As a matter of fact, I'd enjoy stripping the reciever down to nothing and turning it into PD knowing I'll never be here again or under such outrageous leadership.

A "close" friend had chosen to not comply with the first AW registration. Twice we have had Federal LEO contact while shooting on BLM land. In both instances they couldn't have cared less about the unregistered California AW or the pre-ban 30 round mags. All they seemed concerned with was magnetic ammo which we didn't have.

It has been to Burro, ASR and A Place To Shoot on numerous occasions without any issues at all

My personnal experience with BLM agents is they do enforce CA gun laws in the field. One looked at my ^bear gun^ on a sled last month and the first question was "does that have a bullet button"?

The next question was, "is it registered"? At that point I stopped and engaged him for about 15 minutes. I showed him the rifle and all it's cool features plus light weight.

I explained I was a member of Cal Guns and appologized for all the trash left by idiots. Then I showed him my printed out copy of all the California gun laws I always carry in my range bag for reference. I told him we do all we can to keep these areas clean and safe. Hopefully, next time he just waves and goes by.

Never assume these agents don't know what's going on or that they don't enforce state laws, because they do.

I've been approached by BLM while shooting and experienced enforcement of bullet button, trash, and mag capacity laws. All went well and had no issues. They're just doing their job. The RAW issue is new to me. I just wanted insight as to the legality and practicality of shooting RAW's on BLM land. Really trying to understand all legal options before I make a decision on how to comply with the new laws. I appreciate all of your info and responses
