Recommend an 11.5 inch upper for a "Firearm" build

Im looking to build one of my pistol lowers into a "firearm". Ive done some research and it looks like the best way to do this is to go with an 11.5 inch barrel so I can make it to the 26" OAL requirement. Can anyone recommend a high quality 11.5 complete upper? I would love to build one but I dont have the tools so it needs to be complete. The only one Ive seen so far that I like is the 11.5 BCM KMR. My budget is around $1500. THANKS!

If you are doing this in CA...

A "handgun" is a firearm with a less than 16" barrel length.

Any "handgun" made in CA needs to comply with CA unsafe handgun laws, CA assault weapon laws, and CA SBR/SBS laws.

    Therefore...
The handgun needs to be made into a dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistol or a dimensionally compliant break-top/open single-shot pistol.

Because the firearm can never had been semi-auto prior to creation, you will most likely need to build your own upper, instead of buying an existing upper and modifying it. This is because existing uppers are typically test fired by the manufacturer as a semi-auto.

In addition to installing a maglock & 0 round mag/sled, the following must be done depending on the type of upper...

If the AR style pistol normally operates via direct impingement, then:
    1. Do not install a gas tube.
    2. Do not install a gas block or plug the gas block.
This makes it a straight pull bolt-action single-shot.

If the AR style pistol normally operates via gas-piston, then:
    1. Do not install a gas piston.
    2. Do not install a gas block or plug the gas block.
This makes it a straight pull bolt-action single-shot.

If the AR style pistol normally operates via blowback, then:
    1. Install a dowel in the buffer tube, which prevents the buffer from moving.
    This makes it a break-top/open single-shot.

The upper will also need a minimum 6" barrel length and the handgun will need a minimum 10.5" overall length.

Yup i know all of that. Thanks for the refresher though. Looking to do something similar to this: http://www.franklinarmory.com/PRODUCTS_BFS-XO-26.html

      Any suggestions for an upper?

I should clarify. I have and ar pistol, I got rid of the upper and am now looking for suggestions for a new 11.5 upper. I was under the impression that as long as you have a legal (BB, 10rd) AR pistol that is over 26 inches, you can add a forward grip, re classifying it as just a "firearm". If I am mistaken let me know

After building a couple pistols I think there are two viable options. One, go with something expensive that you really want, like a DD MK18 build. The other option is go cheap but still reliable. PSA is first one that comes to my mind...for me spending $400-$850 range feels like a waste of money because I'm not getting anything out of the $800 BCM upper that I'm not getting out of the PSA.

Hey thanks for the suggestion. I actually already own a MK18! Fantastic pistol. Ill take a look at PSA and see if anything tickles my pickle 😂

Check with CBC Industries. They have very reasonable prices and make nice uppers.

I think this is a bit over priced
