I was informed by Blaser USA and their supposed only distributor of this model that this rifle is not California compliant and cannot be sold here. If you know otherwise then please PM me your sources contact information. I truly appreciate it. Thanks.

I would suggest you select the type of competition shooting you might be interested in and then go to some local matches and see what others are shooting. Spending 5-10k to set up a .338 is fine but I would argue that you are less likely to ever use it for competition. Now, if you just want to go out in the desert with some friends and bang steel at ELR that would be a good choice.....if you have the experience and skill to hit anything at ELR.

You may have an email, but the manufacturer is incorrect in their statement that their bolt action rifle is not california compliant.
Besides overall length exceeding 26" (which it does) and being chambered in 50BMG(which it is not), there are no limitations on bolt action rifles in CA.
The manufacturer may be giving bad advice to their distributor and the distributor is being a good parrot and regurgitating it to you.

There is no "approved list" for rifles of ANY sort to be sold in CA.
ALL RIFLES are legal for sale as long as they do not have the features of california defined "assault weapons".

Ask them both WHY they believe it is not California compliant.

Thank you for your advise. I will be reaching out to them once again and get their justification. The Blaser is really my top choice if permitted. Will reply back once I receive their responses.

I can build you a custom rifle on a Surgeon XL action for less than Blaser is asking that will be more accurate and setup with the proper twist barrel for shooting lathe turned solid bullets which is what you will want for shooting the 2000yd URSA matches.

                $1780 http://www.otmtactical.com/SURGEON-1...-BF_p_196.html
                $339 http://www.otmtactical.com/338cal-BA...-29-_p_53.html
                $150 https://www.americanprecisionarms.co...bastard-brake/
                $110 http://www.otmtactical.com/TIMNEY-Re...ety-_p_31.html
Not the correct stock, but pricing is inline with what one will cost:
                $860 http://www.otmtactical.com/Manners-T...CAL_p_401.html
Around $400 in gunsmithing to build the rifle

So around $3800 with shipping and you are only paying sales tax on the $1780 portion instead of the $4400 for the Blaser.

That's a banging deal, and Surgeons are the truth in long range shooting.

                  But...

For under 1500 yards I would do a Christensen Arms 6.5CM, throw it in a Manners stock, top it off with your favorite glass, and be done.

For 1500 yard action, I'm going to stand by my 300WSM, as I, a mediocre shooter hits with regularity out to 1800 ish when I do the job properly. And it's not a 10 or 12 dollar round per shot. And the recoil is not ridiculous. I typically fire between 30 and 60 rounds a session, and have shot 80 rounds in competition. That would be $800 bucks in 338LM rounds, minimum.

Call him run-like-hell-when-shtf-guy or dial-911-guy but NEVER call an unarmed man "Security".

Factory Lapua 338 with a 300 grain bullet goes for about 6 bucks a round. If you decide to shoot this caliber, reloading is almost a requirement....unless you have unlimited funds.

My only experience is with the Blaser, shot a few rounds out of an Aussie's over in Afghanistan, I liked it.
