    Ammo Bros Fees

I had two stripped lowers sent to Ammos Bros. and was quoted $80 to transfer both. Now the guy is saying $95-- $50 for the first, $20 for the second, plus $25 for background check.

It seems to me if I was quoted $80 before then that would include the background check, but I could be wrong.

Can someone tell me what Ammo Bros. normally charges for this transaction?

Call and ask for Darrin, it's probably just a miscommunication...

But am I correct in thinking the deal was originally 80 dollars out the door? Isn't that a big enough profit for Ammos Bros which would support my original interpretation of our deal?

They did the same to me. Quoted me one price on the phone ($75 on first $10 each additional), called to confirm price when I went down there to DROS my shipped items (still was quoted same price, walked in the door, started DROS, was charged a different/higher price. Last time I ever used them for that.

I asked to speak with the person I spoke to on the phone, he came over, and said those were the old prices

Anyways. like I said, last time for that. Good store tho.
I use a kitchen table FFL. Very professional, great businessman, excellent fees!

These guys quoted my friend(prior service army) $100 to install a bullet button and last Friday I stopped by they quoted me at $20 for installation. They should have set prices posted on a board inside the store, most the time I call for a price on something it's different than when I go to the store.

There is no way we can accurately tell you what Ammo Bros said over the phone to you and what they might have meant. Transfer fees vary so much from store to store that there is no telling what they said.

Me personally I always tell guys it is $50. My transfer fee is $50. The DROS is still necessary and it is $25. Is it clever marketing? I never thought of it that way, I just never include DROS because in my mind that is always a given. When I quote you a price on a gun, I don't include DROS and tax unless you ask specifically.

A good lesson from this is as a consumer you can always ask, "What is the out the door total on that?" I get guys ask that all the time and I am more than happy to figure it out for them. And now that I think about it, that is probably a good way to tell between experienced buyers and newbies.

                    Good thread.

longbeach, thanks for the suggestion to post the prices on a board inside the store. I will bring it up to Darrin and Dustin.

Shotgun Man, apologies for the miscommunication over the phone. The price for a dealer transfer is $50 for the first item, $20 for each additional item, and $25 for the DROS

and 5150Marcelo, apologies to you too.

God knows we make mistakes but we are not trying to be deceptive.

Francisco (i am at the store on Saturdays)

I was in there last Saturday to do 2 PPTs(Francisco helped me by the way, very nice guy). I got there a few minutes before they opened, and was there almost 2 hours. What I noticed was there seems to be a lack of communication between employees or whoever is in charge and the guys working the counter.

A lot of guys were coming in saying they were told that this lower/part/item was in and to come DROS it or pick it up, and the people that were there having no idea what the customer was talking about. I can't tell you in 2 hours how many times I heard someone say, "Call Darrin".

I will give them, that they treated everyone very professionally as they did myself. It just seemed that they get so swamped with calls and walk ins that there was a lack of order at times.

I think you are incorrect. the transfer fee (which goes to ammo bros) has nothing to do with the dros (which goes to the state).

Like BWO said, call Darrin and get it cleared up.

thats why its good to ask OTD or OUT THE DOOR PRICE.

50$ transfer fee +25$ DROS is reasonable.

25$ transfer fee + 25$ DROS is even better and pretty much the best in CA.

I've done several out-of-state transfers at Ammo Bros, and it's always been $50 transfer fee, plus $20 for each additional, plus $25 DROS. It's been that rate for as long as I've been going there, which is 2.5 years. $50 is as good as it gets for a bricks and mortar store-front FFL in SoCal.
