    My day at Angeles Range

Hadnt been here all year and thought this morning would be perfect to avoid crowds, boy was I right. I was there for handgun shooting and wanted to revamp my relationship with a 9 Ive had a for a long time but almost parted ways with. Bought some new springs for it and my lord what a difference. 250 flawless rounds, Im so happy I didnt sell it and decided to give it a tune up instead.

Staff was nice for a change. It was a completely different vibe from times Id gone last year. To be fair it was morning and very empty so I dont think they were really on edge as much. I even felt it would be okay to ask a range attendant to spot me with my 45 ( I was solo) on the gong side, to my surprise he said yes and I quickly loaded 5 in the mag. I hit the gong by the fifth shot and was hitting the furthest bull next to human target around 100 yards with a grin on my face. I was so impressed with the gun and even more for the perfect advice and tip for change in shot acquisition from RO, really nice guy with glasses.

Do the guys using rounds larger than 22 and no glass regularly hit the first line of gongs easily? I think theyre at the 50 yard range. How often would you say youre hitting your target at that distance? How about at 100 yards? I know handguns are not intended for this but I was very impressed by the consistency at those distances, if I put my part both 9 and 45 were touching even out to 100 yards. I need to do more long range pistol shooting.

Did you mean the first row of steel targets? I think those are at 35 yards if I am not mistaken.

With enough practice, I think hitting them consistently on the first mag should not prove difficult, regardless of the caliber. The tough ones are the smaller ones, especially the tiny steel flags.

The first row is 35 yards. I tend to hit them about every other shot or so when rapid firing. The hundred yard silhouette I tend to hit a one or two times per 8 shot mag, still at about one shot per second. Granted, I am just getting back into shooting after a long hiatus, so maybe others are more skilled.

One shot per second, with an occasional double tap. I guess rapid fire is relative. I did get a bit happy once and shot a bit fast, when the steels were almost empty, started hitting every gong I aimed at. The RO stopped me and reminded me to slow down a bit. That was annoying. I was in a groove. lol

Wow seems very good for a hiatus.

Last time out I hit the smallest chicken, it's barely wider than its chain. When I hit it, it flew up over the bar and was snagged for the rest of the day. I also like that small pig at 75 yards.
The little ones just fly about when you hit them.
Ever at 35 yards getting hits was hard, have to be very steady before pulling trigger.

                    Their house----their rules.
I see no problem with that. Same way at the 2 ranges I shoot at.
At least the RO was polite and nice about you breaking the rules.

I've been to Angeles several times this year (and hopefully one more time tomorrow) and the ROs have been accommodating. Even had a couple spot me as I was trying to get a couple scopes in line.

IMO with any range, if you're nice, the RO is nice. Saw a guy approach the bench for a bottle of water during a cease fire. RO authoritively told the guy over the speaker 'DON'T CROSS THE YELLOW LINE'. Dude still went not only to retrieve his water but on his retirn to the tables, teased the RO buy taking a step back and forth from the yellow line. Another RO approached him and reprimanded him saying if you can't follow the rules, he'll be asked to leave. RO left and dude started swearing him out behind his back.

You be nice (& respect the rules) to them and they'll do the same.

Oh, I know. Them is the rules. And, yes, he was polite about it. No big deal, but at the same time, a bit annoying. I was in a really good place at the time. lol

At our club a posted sign reads something like: "Fully-automatic firing is authorized on this range for those with proper documentation".

Only real issue I have at Angeles is people shooting the steel I just spray painted.

Going in the morning allows one to have all pistol gongs freshly painted to oneself
