    Cross Eye Dominant. Grrrrrrrrr!

I'm now able to shoot with both eyes open with pistol and loving it because it reduces eye strain and get full peripheral vision.

With rifle, I'm not able to open both eyes no matter what I do. I close my left eye to line up the sights then open both eyes and able to keep them on target. But once I blink it is gone, my dominant takes over and had to do it all over again.

For those who are Cross Eye Dominant, are you able to overcome this problem using rifle?

I started off that way and it was very frustrating, being right handed but focused with left eye, with training I'm able to now be focus with either eye when both are open. Just practice focusing which eye you would want dominant. Even when I was at a red light or stuck in traffic I'd train, I'd put my thumb forward and pretend it was a sight and practice focusing lol. Took about 2 weeks for me to get it down. Now one thing I suck at and need to practice is being able to use either right or left hand shooting. One thing I'm stuck with is astigmatism, my first red dot sight I thought was defective so I exchanged it and sure enough the second one was the same.

Lots and lots and lots of practice with a pellet rifle / pistol here. You can cram 100x as much shooting into your backyard at a penny a shot, to overcome this one issue. Worked for me.

Rifle shooting has never been a problem for me since I am forced to focus down the sights or scope with your right eye - unless I were to shoot left handed, which I don't. Pistols are another matter for me entirely. I have a natural tendency to shoot with my right eye simply because of the way I hold the pistol, but since I'm left eye dominant I try to practice using my left. I get better results using my left eye and if I shoot and practice consistently it becomes a learned skill.

keep practice. it is all about muscle memories.

due to my Cross Eye Dominant, i'm good with both hands pull the trigger.

I am cross eye dominate and right handed. I shoot rifles left handed. It took a little time to get comfortable, but it worked for me.

            Good luck.

I'm left-eye dominant and right handed. For the longest time I resisted learning how to shoot rifles left handed, but I finally started last summer. The hardest part was simply getting over my resistance. My groups are smaller, and I can see and hit smaller targets at longer distances.

I have the same problem. Haven't tried with rifles yet and I'm struggling hardcore with pistols. It sucks because I'm so much more coordinated with my right hand and have been shooting with one eye since I was 3 playing duck hunt. I think I need to get a light gun game and start practicing both eyes open.

I'm right-handed and left-eye dominant. After years of shooting long guns right-handed and wondering why my vision got all wonky looking down the sights, I finally figured out I was cross-dominant. I just taught myself to shoot left handed; it was a little awkward at first, but now feels pretty natural.

Yep, I shoot rifles primarily left handed now, especially when using magnified optics or iron sights.

I can shoot red dots both eyes open from the right and left, equally as well now. It's actually been a blessing in disguise.

Precisely what I do. Couldnt hit crap holding a shotgun right handed as a kid, changed hands and was instantly better.

Right handed, shoot left. I started when I was a kid, so it's totally natural now. I don't even know how to hold a rifle right handed now.

Well ... now I have two choices ... Since it took me a long time to learn how to shoot with both eyes open, I will try shooting left handed first. That will be weird much like writing using my left hand. This is going to be fun!

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Cross-dominance is very common. I see it in about one student in 20.

The best way to deal with it is to shoot with your weak hand. Feels awkward but 90% of my students get it, usually in a matter of an hour or two and under 100 rounds. You just have to commit to it. Once you mash your body into position, you should be relaxed anyway -- strength is not an issue.
