    Newtown opportunists

Makes me wonder if they know just what a can on worms they are opening.

The 10 Newtown plaintiffs argue that the AR-15 is a weapon of war — its cousin, the M-16, was the rifle of choice in Vietnam — and therefore should never have been marketed to civilians. They say, in effect, that the availability of a high-velocity weapon capable of inflicting such rapid carnage constitutes such negligence.

“The novelty of the approach is that it doesn’t depend upon an argument that the manufacturer knows that a particular shooter is a high-risk buyer,” said Heidi Li Feldman, a professor at Georgetown University Law School, who has followed the Newtown litigation. “The novelty is that it substitutes the general public for a particular individual.”
If this is allowed to go forward. The US Government will wind up being defendants. After all, how many MILLIONS of surplus MILITARY arms in the form of M1 Garands, 30 Carbines, and 1911s, have been sold to the general public since WW11? These were all "Weapons of War".

Meanwhile on another Newtown Opportunistic front.

For a measly $5.5 million each. They are willing to drop their suit.

Proving that it's not about the guns, or the kids, it's really all about the BENJAMINS.

My heart goes out to them for the loss of their children to a MADMAN. But I have absofreak'nlutely no respect for them due to their lack of morals.

The shooter could have killed as many people with a 10/22 (provided he could find 22LR somewhere.) Complex problems have complex solution. This problem of gun violence and terrorism doesnt have an easy solution, a la ban the guns.

I imagine they will go after longbows and tomahawks next.
      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

The AR-15 came out before the M-16 but I'm sure it doesn't matter to them

My understanding is that the semi auto AR-15 was originally designed as a civilian rifle that didn't have market appeal at the time. So armalite sold it to colt who won a military contract after modifying it into the select fire M-16.
          Sorry, not sorry.

The AR-15 was originally designed as a select-fire rifle and it was pretty much a product improved smaller caliber variant of the AR-10.

A semi-auto only version was not made until 4 years after the AR-15 was initially released for sale.
From creation until May-1986, the price of a semi-auto only AR-15 was the same as select-fire AR-15. The only difference was the additional cost ($200 tax stamp) for NFA compliance.

Before the US Military adopted it as the M-16 in 1964, several ArmaLite AR-15 were acquired by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) for testing by US Special Forces in Viet Nam from 1961-1962. Their feedback convinced Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara to adopted the AR-15 as the US Military's new service rifle.

                Thanks for the correction.

So it was made for the civilian market and later adopted by the military??
